In 2002 I began to blog one day on impulse after seeing another blog and being fascinated by the medium. I had no idea at the time that what I was doing would ultimately lead to a complete change in my career path and end up being something I’d make a full time income from in several years later.
I commented on your other page too. Sorry! How and what do you mean to do the affiliate links. I took the Blogelina class and she mentioned them too. I do the Google Ads but would love to start making more money wise. Would you comment more on how to do the affiliate part? Thanks!
Some of the most financially successful blogs provide news on a specific topic or targeted to a particular demographic. Mashable, a blog focused primarily on social media news, was founded by a teenager in 2005 and now attracts millions of dollars in investment funding.[2][3]
Whether you’re looking to supplement your income with a little extra to pay for a few nice treats or create a blog that will support your lifestyle then you can pretty much make as much money as you like from blogging if you are prepared to put in the hard work.
Wordpress will only work with specific PayPal button settings. Do not choose any customization options besides, optionally, a custom image. Use your primary email address, not your secure merchant ID if you have one. Finally, copy paste the code under the email tab, not the website tab.[15]
Definitely not mandatory! The majority of bloggers don’t share income reports. We had just learned so much from other bloggers who had, so before we started making much at all, we started sharing our income in hopes that following our journey would help others be able to figure out this whole money and blogging thing too! Best of luck with your blog!
This is where many bloggers start. In many ways this model of making money from blogs is not dissimilar to how a magazine or newspaper sells ads. As your traffic and brand grows you’ll find advertisers will be willing to pay to get exposure to your audience.
I am combining goals 6 and 7 because I didn’t accomplish either of them. One of the top Google ranking factors is backlinks, so in 2017, I focused on trying to get as many as I could. I was pretty successful getting backlinks from the media, but didn’t take the time to connect with as many brands as I wanted. But looking back, 100 new backlinks per month was a pretty crazy goal. Also when it comes to sharing, I don’t use a social plugin that tracks the shares, but I estimate I get about 50 to 60 per post. Some posts, however, like the $50 a day early retirement strategy I know have been shared over 500 times. In reality for 2018, I’m not planning any goals for backlinks or shares and don’t have any plans to develop an active backlink building strategy. I’m going to spend my time creating quality content instead.
You can approach companies on your own to ask about doing paid reviews. There are also websites like PayPerPost and SponsoredReviews that can help to connect you with businesses who may be interested.
One example is this: since our blog is a sub-domain for my wife and I’s boutique beach resort, nobody seems to want to touch me as a guest blogger. I get the same response every time “you’re commercial and so you’ve got to pay for a sponsored post”…and while yes, we are commercial and not a private blog per se, we’re a tiny family run business and 95% of private blogs are striving to be commercial, whether they’re associated with a company name or not.
You are not going to make any money from your blog if people don’t read it. After all, your readers are the ones who are going to make you money, whether they’re clicking on your ads or buying your products. Always put your readers first.
As far as blogging, there are many bloggers that earn a blogging income doing the same thing and there are just fine.  Competition is good, and there are so many people to reach out to one blogger could never do it all.
The idea that you can start a blog today and make a full-time income within a few months is, for most, not realistic. There is simply too much too learn and too much to build (your site, your content library, your social media presence, your trustworthiness, relationships with readers, etc.). If you need money right away, building a blog may not be your best option.
I was gonna start a blog again. However, I feel it would be better to start an art website instead. Had a personal blog from 2011-2014. Most of the visitors were from traffic exchanges or purchased clicks. In other words, they were robot views. I found some good free domains for anyone to get started and they’re also top ranked!
Keep in mind you need lot’s of traffic that is actually targeted traffic which will help convert into money for you.. Let’s say you have a blog about dog grooming and you are getting backlinks on a high authority fashion blog. That traffic from that blog will not equal money for you or very little because those fashion freaks may not even care about dog grooming and find nothing interesting on your blog so they leave rright away. That effects bounce rate over time and you wasted your time getting a quality backlink on a blog that there visitors most likely don’t care about your blog.
Display ads are nice when they are contextually relevant, but they can get really random and clutter up the experience. Also – a quick note: If you run a display ad network on your website, it can undercut your affiliate revenue since most affiliate commissions are based on last-click attribution, not first-click. So, for example, if someone clicks on your affiliate link, but then comes back to your website and gets served a re-marketing display ad from your affiliate and they click on it, you might not get the affiliate commission (since they clicked on a re-marketing ad for the brand last!). I realized I was losing a lot of affiliate commissions this way, so be careful if you have run display ads and have affiliates.
Now, starting a blog is easy but in order to be able to successfully monetize the blog, you need to establish the blog. In this guide, I have also covered the topics that help you establish your blog so you can monetize it.
your site is such a breathe of fresh air and an inspiration! So many fun reads and THIS area is a great insight to the blogging possibilities of staying home raising little ones, while having the opportunity to keep an income going and creativity alive!
Hi Dawood! Im glad you are inspired by these. I am also trust me! Its amazing. I like the idea of putting down when the blog was created but not all the bloggers have this info handy. I can tell you that my personal income report is from a new blogger. July 2015 was my 2nd full month of ever blogging. So far my numbers have been increasing in every category which is awesome!
I knew nothing about Blogging until I met you. Things are happening for my coaching business because of what I learned from you. Headlines — subtitles – formatting — passion and a big mission. My writing has completely improved.
Press Trips: A tourism board or tour company invites you to their country to write about your experiences. They do this because your blog has large numbers and they want to introduce your readers to their tour or destination. The deal typically includes flights, all transport, food, travel and entertainment for the duration of the trip and you can charge for your services on top of this (upwards of $3,500 / two-week trip).
I think that is so awesome for you! Its hard to actually start doing what you love and to actually make money from it is such a great bonus!!I just started blogging, I joined twitter (which I never thought I would) & finally started a blog on wordpress. Good luck to you and your new adventure
The point is, most people are afraid to charge more than $200 for a class, believing that’s all people can afford, but it’s just not true. Every market has customers who are and willing to pay for a premium experience. Give them one.
Posts like this have reminded me that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and more than one way to be successful (as opposed to the 9-5 grind). Hard work really does pay off and I can’t wait to see the fruits of my (upcoming) labor!
Thanks for a great post. I have printed it out as I always like to read my inspirational stuff again and again. I am thinking of teaching a creative writing course to senior school kids, because in my country(South Africa) job opportunities are scarce and education expensive. I want to teach young people that you can create your own opportunities through writing and growing to be an expert in a chosen field. This way they will also improve their confidence in approaching opportunities when it do arise and with the right attitude. I am a real estate professional and writes a blog on aspects which I have noticed my clients are ignorant about. My readership has risen through the year and all my sales last year came from readers of my blog. Thanks again for the information you present so well and with a sense of humour. I still cannot afford one of your courses but I read every one and apply all that I learn. Praise be to Your Royal Awesomeness!

We believe that WordPress outperforms all other platforms. It is powerful, easy to use, affordable, and the most flexible of all available blogging platforms. Here are all the reasons why you should use WordPress.
If you need a little help I would highly recommend you check out my article How to Start a Blog in which I run through the steps you need to take to get up and running. It’s really not as hard as you might think!
OK – the first four steps of starting a blog, creating content, finding readers and building engagement with those readers are important foundations that you really do need to get in place before you’ll be able to build long term income for your blog.
Allen… you can embed links within your blog articles which lead to further information about the topic you are writing about.. If you have an affiliate program, a book on Amazon or whatever you can then earn while still enjoying your passion of writing.
Many bloggers create and sell their own digital products. Digital products are great because they don’t require inventory and can be distributed to quickly and easily. There’s no overhead and low risk. Examples of digital products bloggers create:
One thing that really struck me in this post is the reverse sales funnel. I’ve always thought to start off cheaper then gradually charge more money. To be honest, this reverse funnel sounds scary, but since you said you had great results, I should probably give it a try.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share a bundle of knowledge. I am very new to blogging. I’ve been compiling my content in WordPress but have not gone live as of yet. Reading your article has helped me tremendously and greatly inspired me as well.
Haha yeah it takes time to finally figure out, implement and start making a profit. I spent countless hours reading up and was able to make money pretty fast but by all means, its not much at all. Im definitely getting enough to pay for the hosting and all that but i wish I could get more. 😉

Spot-on post though, I’m just genuinely curious…in your experience, have you found it more difficult for people to break into guest blogging since it’s so pervasive among the IM crowd? Is it more-so a matter of who you know versus what you know?
