Along with using free analytics data (tip #3) to learn more about your audience, you can also tap into the wealth of first-party information LinkedIn members provide. Use this information to better understand your target audience so that you can ultimately serve them a better content experience. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
From the trenches of every major digital marketing publisher, and as the Founder of Wordstream, Larry Kim provides deep insights and thought-provoking content through lead stories, digital marketing trends, and pleasant infographics. How can I achieve point b)? Another example. The Freelancer Way is my LinkedIn group, dedicated to freelancers worldwide and people who work remotely. As an ambassador of freelancers and being one myself, I always enjoy connecting to like-minded people. The group is rather small – 60 members so far, but grows organically every week. I never spam people in my LinkedIn contact list. I always mention the group in my follow-up emails after workshops and events, invite them through Skype or write about it in my articles online. Everything happens in a way in which people don’t feel offended, and it is purely up to them if they want to join the group or not. I believe in the “elevator-pitch” approach: just make it interesting enough and aligned with their mission, and people will join your cause.
Treat LinkedIn like any other form of marketing that you do, and get clued up on the latest trends. People don’t want to be interrupted, so try your best to be “discovered” on LinkedIn. Read up on Content Marketing and Inbound Marketing, and apply these strategies to this network. There are plenty of people acting like hard-sell 1980s sales reps on LinkedIn, so be wise and don’t become one of them. — Nikki Hammett, digital marketing manager, blur Group
Back to the Future is a movie with a cult-like fan base. When it was released almost 30 years ago, Nike created a responsive shoe – the self-lacing sneaker or Nike Mag – worn in the movie by Michael J Fox. In 2016 Nike, never slow to jump on a trend, released the 2016 Nike Mag. A limited-edition, only 89 were produced. The sneakers were put into an auction with proceeds going to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Nike followed a trend whilst demonstrating its social conscience.
One of my most favorite things to do is publish content on Pulse. About a year ago, I listened to a podcast about how to use your content there to drive sales. At the time, it felt very creepy and Big Brother-like, but I decided to at least try it before I knocked it. Every time I publish a piece of content, of course I engage with the people who comment. But beyond that, I look to see who is liking and commenting – and what connection they are to me. If they’re a second or third connection, and I see that they’ve read two or more of my articles, I sent them a note through LinkedIn. This small tactic has resulted in three new clients, worth a combined $300,000 in revenue. – Gini Dietrich, CEO of Arment Dietrich and author of Spin Sucks
With the addition of measurement companies like Adjust, AppsFlyer, Apsalar, Kochava and Tune to its Marketing Program, Pinterest will let advertisers use these third-party tools to check that their ads were shown to their intended audience and track what impact those ads had, such as how much they have changed people’s perception of a brand or how much they affected product sales. And brands using Moat — but only brands using Moat — will be able to measure whether their ads on Pinterest actually had a chance to be seen.
To help customers have a memorable Valentine’s Day, Kraft turned to Ted Williams, the famous voice discovered on the street, to send personalized videos for their Kraft Valentines Tweets campaign. This campaign was both fun and creative, offering fans a chance to create a personal message for the ones they love, while still taking advantage of a recognized voice. What better way to surprise that special someone than by having your tweet read by the “Golden Voice of Love?” All customers had to do was tweet #voiceoflove to Kraft for a chance to have their love message read by Williams.

As a full-time network marketer, I realized that I had no one to prospect. So I left my home every morning and went out into the Texas heat to “bump into” 100 new prospects a day before I could go home. That was tough. And that’s when I thought that there has to be..

Thanks for more great tips, now I just need to go back and figure out how to get my video to automatically play and it would be nice if I could move it to the top. Outside of that it looks like I still have a lot to learn about LinkedIn, I’m excited about it.
Take some time to create a great headline and introductory paragraph that will immediately capture the reader’s attention and make those first 3-5 points strong and compelling. Don’t save the best ones for your own site. Your best points should be made on LinkedIn so that the reader is curious and clicks the link to read the rest of the article.
The goal here is to publish content that your target audience finds interesting. Clicks, shares, and comments are all good indicators of engaging content. While it can be tempting to sell your audience on the benefits of your product or service, “salesy” content doesn’t generally perform well on LinkedIn.
Many companies use Twitter to answer customer questions, but KLM, a Dutch airline, has taken this to the next level. Instead of simply having a back-and-forth with customers, KLM updates in real time on Twitter. Every five minutes, the Twitter cover photo is updated with the new estimated “hold times.” This makes it easy for customers know what to expect from the company and offers real-time insight.

While the client declined to share specific keywords used, citing “the competitive nature of how McDonalds Canada gains followers using Promoted Accounts,” it was quite pleased with the results, noting that the use of diverse keywords and hashtags enabled the company to reach viewers of many demographics with many different interests.
Louis Vuitton’s Twitter marketing strategy is one-way, no engagement, with its focus on pushing its products. It only retweeted 5 times in 2016, all from its other Twitter accounts. Yet it has nearly 6m followers, who retweeted the brand’s tweets over 378K times. It’s not a strategy that would work for all brands, but it works for luxury brands that users aspire to.
The percentage of an MLM company’s total profit that is ultimately distributed to its participants (the sales force), away from the MLM owners or shareholders, differs from one MLM company to the next. However, the percentage earmarked to be paid to participants is usually a quite smaller share of overall company profits. The earmarked figure is then distributed in complex compensation plans which, ultimately, funnel most of it to a few individual participants in the upper-most levels of the MLM participant pyramid. The remaining majority of participants (often over 99.5% or more) receive no returns, or negligible return which are more often than not at a net loss after they deduct expenses which were incurred in the promotion of their “independent businesses”.
If you’re getting a little hot and bothered by the massive followings these marketing professionals have accrued, don’t fret. They all started at 0 followers like the rest of us. It is important to note that the majority of this list have been on the Twitter bandwagon since 2007, when about.me and yammer were still competitors.
Jamison and Kara were very patient in targeting the exact list I needed. Once I purchased the list, it was in my inbox within the hour! I sent out 5,000 records to start, and 8% bounced back, which was less than the 10-25% they told me to anticipate. I am a very happy customer, and I will recommend the ListGuy to everyone I know.
Everyone should claim their custom URL to ensure it includes their name (e.g., http://linkedin.com/in/davideerickson). This is especially important for people who have a lot of contact with potential clients — especially for those who [are in] professional services and the B2B sector — because when meeting with someone they have not yet met, many people will search Google for the name of the person with whom they’re meeting in order to learn more about them. Claiming your custom URL makes it more likely your LinkedIn profile will rank in the top of those search results. — David Erickson, vice president of online marketing, Karwoski & Courage
They’ve also created a number of successful hashtags that encourage their followers to engage with them on Twitter. Their most famous is #TweetFromTheSeat, in which followers can send tweets while sitting on the toilet. The hashtag earned them a Shorty Award in 2014 — and we love the description they included in their entry:
The main sales pitch of MLM companies to their participants and prospective participants is not the MLM company’s products or services. The products/services are largely peripheral to the MLM model. Rather, the true sales pitch and emphasis is on a confidence given to participants of potential financial independence through participation in the MLM. This is referred to as “selling the dream”.
While marketing activities on Twitter are often described by silly, Twitterized words — like tweetathon, twontest and tweetchat — these types of campaigns have proven successful for marketers and brands of all sizes.
