Whenever we’re asked where one can learn PPC on their own, we direct them to the AdHawk Academy. If for some reason they want more resources, we say Perry Marshall is your guy. Although most of us probably can’t afford a consulting session with him, Marshall provides a ton of free content that helps PPC marketers stay in the loop with what’s going on in the crazy world of digital advertising.
Good content can be highly targeted and should accomplish two goals. First, it should teach others how to solve a problem or how to do their job better. And it then establishes you as a thought leader in that space. Each aspect naturally leads to more business, if you offer them real value. It’s basic psychology, and it gets real results. — Michael Riley, co-founder, Boxter
So Awesome! What a great post! This is some amazing information. One of the greatest blog posts I have found on the topic so far. My company has been throwing around the idea of starting up a couple additional company profiles for a couple months now, but we could not decide if it was going to be worth our time & effort to get it started up. The main concern is that my company already juggle around more accounts…… More than we can even keep up with sometimes. Some of what you mentioned around the end (about it being appealing, do we have time to work on a new social platform, ect….) kind of just made up my mind for me. We will try to use a few of the websites out there to help manage our profiles activity to better figure out what the audience we cater to is truly interested in so we can only target people who’d be more likely interested in what my business has to offer rather than just going after random users who’d take no interest in our products. Thanks for opening my mind up!.
Success on Linked In comes from being a good online neighbor. First of all, this means not approaching people you don’t have anything in common with and being sure to send a real message in the invitation. No one would meet someone at a networking event and go Hi I’m Max Ivey I want to be in your network. They would tell you a little about theirselves and then ask you to do the same.
“For maximum success, Twitter can’t stand alone. Beyond tweeting, our team dropped blog posts about the campaign, alerted our Facebook base, sent out an email to our customer, issued a press release and conducted traditional media outreach. We also worked with BlogHer to tap into their extensive network of influential women and mom bloggers. If marketers do their homework and recognize that Twitter campaigns must go hand-in-hand with other efforts, they will increase their overall success. In our case, once the Go Granny tweetcapades started, there was no stopping them.”
Great article! There are definitely beginner/intermediate and advanced user tips in different buckets. Maybe in your next article extend to include some more advanced resources – freelinkedintraining, com or some of the more social selling oriented webinars. Maybe also in your follow up article, insights into some add-on tools like Prophet, eLink Pro – we biased 🙂 – Rapportive (now owned by LinkedIn) and other good extensions like List Builder and TabSnap
MLM companies have been trying to find ways around China’s prohibitions, or have been developing other methods, such as direct sales, to take their products to China through retail operations. The Direct Sales Regulations limit direct selling to cosmetics, health food, sanitary products, bodybuilding equipment and kitchen utensils. And the Regulations require Chinese or foreign companies (“FIEs”) who intend to engage into direct sale business in mainland China to apply for and obtain direct selling license from the Ministry of Commerce (“MOFCOM”). In 2016, there are 73 companies, including domestic and foreign companies, have obtained the direct selling license. Some multi-level marketing sellers have circumvented this ban by establishing addresses and bank accounts in Hong Kong, where the practice is legal, while selling and recruiting on the mainland.

8. Social Mention. What makes Social Mention one of the best Twitter applications? The fact that it reaches beyond Twitter to track your brand, product or chosen topic across over 100 social media sites. Then it funnels everything into one place, giving you real-time updates to keep you in the know.
1. Tweetcharts. If you manage a Twitter account for one or more clients, put this app in your toolbox. Simply type in your Twitter handle or business name and TweetCharts will chart and graph your retweets, mentions, replies and other useful stats. This app is especially helpful when compiling social media reports for clients.
Most of their tweets include cool information or statistics from their studies that are interesting to their target followers. They do a great job of tweeting out an interesting statistic or tidbit, including a relevant image that makes that piece of information stick out in the feed, and then link to the larger study. Folks scrolling through their feed who find that information interesting might be enticed to learn more by clicking the link.
Everyone talks about the power of Facebook ads (I’m not discounting how dynamic they can be; in fact, I’ve had great success using them myself), but the LinkedIn ad platform is even more powerful considering the demographic is made up of decision makers.

A simple link at the bottom of the LinkedIn post that says something like, “Read all 10 by clicking here” is all you need to do to drive traffic to your own site where you can pixel the reader for re-targeting later on facebook and Google.
9. Bit.ly. More than just a URL shortener, Bit.ly lets users send links to multiple accounts and customize shortened domains to highlight their brands. You can also plug your Bit.ly API into many of the other best Twitter applications to track and graph stats on your links.
During the campaign, over 500,000 characters were ‘donated’ by Twitter Users, helping to spread the #FairTweets message around the world. By getting their fans to drive the campaign, Ben and Jerry’s were able to spread the message far beyond their 100,00 followers.
Today, Pinterest announced that it’s expanding it’s third party partner network to include two new specialties: measurement and audiences and renaming the Marketing Developer Partners program to simply “Marketing Partners.” By expanding its third-party marketing partner ecosystem, Pinterest is paving the road for brands to accomplish a broader range of marketing needs and goals.

LinkedIn is constantly enhancing its platform and one of the things that has been lagging, until recently, was the company page section. Now, it allows you to add a video, share more information about your products and services, and give more insights about your company and the people working there.
It’s best practice to use between three to five hashtags, despite the fact that the maximum you can add is 30 per Instagram post. Use your own, campaign specific hashtags as well as the more popular hashtags to increase the discoverability of your content. For example, try adding hashtags like #instagood (used is 300 million posts), or #tbt (Throwback Thursday), and don’t forget about industry specific ones. If you are in IT, the hashtag #IT or #tech will do just fine. Also, consider how you add hashtags, these can be added at the end of the post, in a comment or worked into the actual post, like GoPro does.
One simple way to incorporate hashtags is by identifying popular events to which you can link your business in an authentic way. Remember, these can be everyday, personal events like meals or commutes, as well as wider cultural events, like Valentine’s Day or Chinese New Year.
I highly recommend everyone on Linked write a crafted letter, saying thank you for being connected on LinkedIn, and that you invite them to be part of your email marketing list. Do apologize for the lack of personalization in the email. LinkedIn lets you message 50 people at a time this way. I added about 300 people to my email list with this method. Include in your email a direct link for the email signup. It is imperative that you have reciprocity in the message: 1. Tell them what they will receive by signing up for the email list, and 2. offer to look at something of theirs, which is a fairly noncommittal method to garner goodwill. — Bradford Hines, founder, YumDomains.com and HungryKids.org
Provide people with clear, conspicuous ways to share content on Pinterest. For example, if you use Pin data for personalization or recommendations, make it easy for people to save content back to Pinterest.
I have a huge knot on my forehead from falling asleep on my desk in mid-browse when looking at LinkedIn profiles. Most of them are extremely boring and showcase zero personality or compelling attributes. Add an interesting story in your summary, have a video recommendation pop up in the first few seconds, or at the least tell people who you are, who you help, and how you help them so there is some direction for people when they land on your profile. Whatever you do, liven it up a little so the bump on my forehead can go away 🙂
Instagram has also launched their Instagram Business profiles and paid advertising. Roetzer and his agency, PR 20/20, have a bit of history with HubSpot, as the company was one of our first Value-Added Resellers (or VARs). He wrote the book on how to run a marketing agency … no, literally, he wrote the book: The Marketing Agency Blueprint. In addition to his substantial marketing know-how, he’s also an avid tweeter of the latest agency, social, and tech news.

Pinterest’s Marketing Partners (PMP) build tools and services to help businesses scale their presence and marketing on Pinterest and create a richer experience for Pinners. Lewis… I agree, that would be very helpful information. Kristi… this should help with the SlideShare application: http://www.slideshare.net/ashwan/adding-slideshare-to-linkedin-presentation. Take care, David.
Pinterest is also adding companies that help advertisers apply their own data when targeting ads. These companies — like Epsilon, Experian, Salesforce’s Krux, Acxiom’s LiveRamp, mParticle and Neustar — will be able to take a brand’s data, like a list of customers’ email addresses, and use it to aim ads at those customers on Pinterest, as well as people who may not be customers but share similar characteristics.
One tip I always share for small business owners is to join LinkedIn groups that are relevant to their target demographic. Not only is this a great way to “listen in” on what your audience is talking about, there may [also] be times for small business owners to interact or offer their advice. More importantly, you can message the members of groups you are in, even if you aren’t connected. LinkedIn InMail adds up quickly, so this is a great way to save money when building relationships with potential clients. — Lauren Covello, content marketing strategist, Ripen eCommerce

MLMs have been made illegal in some jurisdictions as a mere variation of the traditional pyramid scheme, including in mainland China. In jurisdictions where MLMs have not been made illegal, many illegal pyramid schemes attempt to present themselves as MLM businesses. Given that the overwhelming majority of MLM participants cannot realistically make a net profit, let alone a significant net profit, but instead overwhelmingly operate at net losses, some sources have defined all MLMs as a type of pyramid scheme, even if they have not been made illegal like traditional pyramid schemes through legislative statutes.

This presents businesses with an opportunity to market their products to a more targeted and interested audience without spending an enormous amount of money on paid advertising. As of January 2018, Instagram’s API has changed to allow users to publish photos to an Instagram Business Profile using a third party platform (like Sendible), making it even easier for brands to take advantage of all Instagram has to offer. 5. Nurph. Speaking of blowing up the home page, here’s another tool to keep your tweets in check. Nurph lets you create a real-time chat on a topic of your choosing and then share it with your followers. This is perfect when 140 characters just won’t cut it, or when you’re having a heated debate about which flavor of PopTarts is the best. (It’s cherry, by the way).
Called Marketing Developer Partners, this is Pinterest’s first official program to give API access to companies offering social media management platforms to brands and businesses. Facebook and Twitter both have similar programs to help coordinate third-party integration, which makes this a natural move for Pinterest as it continues make a case to be a serious alternative for marketers’ dollars.
Lesson: A tweetathon can significantly benefit a time-sensitive social good campaign. USA for UNHCR’s social media consultant Shonali Burke explains that the campaign experienced a huge bump in activity as a result of using Twitter:
As non-employees, participants are not protected by legal rights of employment law provisions. Instead, salespeople are typically presented by the MLM company as “independent contractors” or “independent business owners”. However, participants do not possess a business in the traditional legal sense, as the participants do not hold any tangible business assets or intangible business goodwill able to be sold or purchased in a sale or acquisition of a business. These are the property of the MLM company.
What if your customers looked forward to receiving your marketing? What if when they received it, via print, email, website, they spent 15, 30, 45 minutes with it? What if they anticipated it and shared it with their peers?
With the constant fear of layoffs, I wanted to control my life. I had nutritional products that gave great results, so I started calling my family. I begged them to try the products and business… As you might guess, that didn’t work out. Next, I tried…
