Also, in Building the Framework, the mid-range course comes with 20 videos. I do not use WordPress, and so would like to know if those videos are focused on WP setups and themes? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
I think the most important question you should ask is – before doing anything else – who are these people signing up for my mailing list? What have they’ve accomplished so far and where they’re looking to go? If they’re giving you money by signing up for one of your courses, that goes double.
In fact, I’d go one step further to say it’s necessary for a blogger to really understand his/her audience and to know what keeps them up at night BEFORE coming up with a product idea that delivers more value than it costs.
As a new(ish) blogger, it’s a little intimidating to see such a great post, yet realize it kinda goes against SO much you’ve learned thus far. At this point, I seriously feel like a deer in the headlights. But I have a question…
As a plugin developer, there are many ways you can distribute your plugins. Anyone can submit a free plugin to the WordPress.org plugin directory, as long as they follow the WordPress plugin guidelines. This is a great way to gain experience and build a reputation for yourself as a WordPress plugin developer.
Over the past eight years, I’ve had the good fortune to work with some of the smartest bloggers on the planet. I worked with Brian Clark as he built Copyblogger to a multimillion dollar brand. Neil Patel and Hiten Shah also hired me to help them launch the KISSmetrics blog, eventually creating a multimillion dollar SaaS company.
It will also give you the funds you need to build a team around you. You can hire an assistant, a tech person, a billing person. The faster you get rid of stuff you suck at doing, the faster you will grow.
That’s just amazing. I never thought there can be a number of options to earn from blogs. I always thought serving ads is the only way. Thanks a lot for changing my mind set. Keep sharing informative articles.
I put in so many hours into my blog, I probably get paid like .5 cents per hour. LOL, but I dont care because I love blogging. Its a great way to get my creative juices out there and help others with investing.
One reason these reports are so popular is because not only do the bloggers tell you how much they made, they will often give specifics on where the money came from. This can give you ideas on where to sign up and what to promote on your own blog.
#15 – Sarah Titus – $10,015 in December of 2014 – Sarah has more than doubled this by now, but in December of 2014 she managed to break $10K through affiliates and ad networks, about half and half earnings from each. There were also some earnings from sponsored posts.
Oh, wow! Just…wow! I knew the changes on this site would be phenomenal, but good grief, Jon! I’m nowhere close to where I should be, but this post will be my bookmarked ‘go-to’ when I need to remind myself of the most actionable process I should take as an ‘old newbie’. I know I need help, but this particular post is helping me to wrap my head around what I didn’t understand before. Thanks!
I need some help, I see that you said that building a site that is based on a niche is much more profitable. I have one question, how about a site that isn’t based on a niche. I often blog about many things. Sometimes, they’re not related to each other at all. In terms of SEO, will it have any massive negative impact? Thanks in advance.

Wow, I’m so inspired by all of your incomes. I’ve recently quit my profession in Human Resources to pursue my passion for personal finance/career coaching blog. I hope I can be on that list one day! 🙂
However for many people who are always prepared everyday carry is about having everything you might need in an emergency or for general use on you at all times. This will often include a light source (torch), a pocket knife, some small tools & rope it’s quite amazing how easy it is to carry all these things with you in your pockets, on your keys or in a small bag.
Sort and sweet: how do I know if I can monetize what I know? I’m a widower…married again with five kids…and the death of my first wife taught me more than I ever wanted to know. Can this turn into money? (I fear your answer…or lack of one.). Peace off.
I am a very successful entrepreneur and wish to blog about how to build success thru proper moral business ethics; things like Honesty, integrity and moral vigor are things that are quickly becoming the “past”.
Forth, If you want to learn more about Elite Blog Academy, you can do so here. It was the first course I took that helped me learn what to write about, grow my blog, figure out my VA biz and create my first course.
Making money blogging can take a lot of persistence, but it can pay off in the long-run if you’re starting out from scratch. Just remember that you don’t have to use all of these money-making avenues at once. Consider what other people in your industry are doing, and start from there.
You can manage a WordPress blog from mobile browser. However, this will be difficult as many features on your screen would appear different or may not be visible. Plugins will be unable to adjust their settings page to your device size. In short, it is not practical in the long run.
But as much as I loved writing the book, I’m excited to put my time and energy back into blogging. Thank you to all of the readers who’ve stuck with me. While it was a tough decision for me to spend less time blogging and more time writing the book, for me it was about the long game. Writing a book is a ton of up-front investment that will hopefully pay off in the future by reaching new audiences. It was also a great way to lay out my entire strategy for making as much money as possible and fast-tracking financial independence. For updates on the book and for free stuff sign up here.
Framework covers a wide variety of topics while Affiliate Marketing for Bloggers is focused on affiliate marketing. Many of the Framework videos are WordPress focused. If you decide on Framework I recommend you purchase the eBook first to understand the big concepts and strategies. You always have the option of upgrading to the video tutorials and interviews later. Hope this helps!
I learned this lesson the hard way after having most of my income coming from one source in the early days but after a bit of a bad experience began to diversify my income streams (read about that here) – it was one of the best things I ever did!
Post your article links on social media and blog directories. Get traffic to your site with frequent updates on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites. Find blogging communities that match your readership and post links to relevant articles on their comments or forums. This helps in getting traffic to your site as well as raising your search engine rankings.
Ibotta – This is another free cell phone app. You use it after you go grocery shopping and use your receipt. It’s basically a rebate app, so you can earn anywhere from 50 cents to $5 off everything you buy.
Just thinking aloud here – but maybe you could put a guide together to help people choose the best art for their homes? Maybe in time offer a consultancy service – I bet there are some people who would pay someone to choose the art for them? I’ve seen that you are a self-taught artist – able to offer courses/consultancy on helping others learn art?
Sidebar ads are just that — ads you see on the side of a site. Though, they can also appear elsewhere, like at the top or bottom of a page. Basically, you earn money when someone buys a little piece of web space on your blog. I have a some on the right side of my page — see ’em? Sponsorships, as they’re often called, can also include other things — like a tweet about your sponsor’s site to your Twitter followers, for example. I use Passionfruit Ads to handle my sponsorships and have never used anything else. There’s a small, yearly fee to use their service, but I personally think it’s well worth it. I’ve been running sponsors on my blog for almost a year now and have really enjoyed the experience, as it’s not only made me an increasing amount of income, but also connects me to tons of other bloggers each month.
I really enjoyed your post! I just recently decided to enter the blogging world, and it is always so great to hear about others’ success! I, too, am an introvert and find it hard to sometimes share my content. This definitely gave me the motivation I needed, Thanks 🙂
I know this is a lot of information and I hope it doesn’t overwhelm you! Basically, there are a LOT of ways to earn money from your blog, if that’s something you want to do. Be creative and think of new ways to build on what you’re already doing or interested in. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments! 🙂 Do you earn money from your blog? What have been your best strategies?
If you are using a free blog hosting service instead of your own domain name, you must provide high quality content with a limited number of relevant links or risk being shut down. If you are only interested in writing short, quick product reviews in order to earn money, you will need to host your own blog. Be warned that low-content, high-link blogs are a less reliable, though lower effort, way to earn money.
If you want to be famous or reach a wide audience, you will have to choose something slightly broader and work hard to make the best content for that topic. A subtopic relating to fitness, finance, or relationship advice is likely to reach the most people. Consider specific but broadly applicable topics such as managing money in college, or a marriage counseling blog.
As you can see from the results there are a variety of different websites here from blogs, to eCommerce sites, to forums. Google also shows there are over 14.7 million websites that mention “everyday carry”.
Selling physical products online can be hard to setup as you will need to deal with storage, shipping and even deal with things such as local taxes and distance selling laws. Of course a lot of this headache can be resolved by finding a company who will offer a white-label or drop shipping service leaving you to worry about getting traffic and updating the website.
On this page I want to walk you through the process of how to make money blogging. It’s perfect for those who already have a blog but if you don’t I recommend you check out our guide to starting a blog (it’s step 1).
To be honest, this is the first time I am here in your blog. Someone in my FB friend list shared this article and this is really a great and well-documented article for a newbie blogger like me. Thank you.
Great article. I recently came back into blogging. I hadn’t realized how much I had learnt from my first attempt. Now with the new blog I started about a month ago, I am seeing an increase of traffic everyday which is quite surprising and very exciting. So I have been reading all over how to monetize a blog. Your article is excellent and in-depth. Thank you for sharing I will definitely be using some your advice. Blessings.
I may not personally know you (yet lol) but let me give you the 2 thumbs up for your achievement and thanks for showing others that their goals are also achievable ($100k a month is a goal for a lot of us Internet marketers)!
As I write this, it just so happens that I’m in the initial stages of starting a new blog (more details to be announced soon). It’s in a completely different space where I have no products, so I’ve been pondering the best way to monetize it, and here’s what I think…
This article has gotten my mind churning and working in so many new and exciting ways. Thank you for sharing your insights! You deserve all the success you’ve been having on your blog. I can’t wait to start putting these tips into REAL practice (not the “wow-I-feel-so-inspired-for-20-minutes-and-do-nothing kind of practice I so often fall victim to).
Wow! Great list – I never thought blogging could be so lucrative! I would like to see how the personal finance blogs compare to the bloggers this list. Still trying to figure out what these guys do to earn that kind of monthly income…
This will give a lot of people the confidence that it is definitely possible. I also like the fact that you mentioned it takes a lot of hard work to accomplish this and that it isn’t easy. There’s no get rich quick way to do this!
Time and time again, I have to repeat many (if not all!) these points to them; some learn, some don’t. But the ones who learn will definitely see better results and probably become one of those bloggers who gets paid to do what they love!
make money with blog
In return for a reader’s email address, I would give away a free 7 day email course via email. About 85% of the time, that reader would stick around after the mini course to check out my new articles and updates.
In the end, that’s what I love most about blogging: every article we publish, every course we create, every coaching call we do can change somebody’s life. Maybe not always in a big way, but we touch thousands upon thousands of people, and we make their lives just a little bit better. We inform them, we inspire them, and we give them the roadmap for achieving their dreams.
Sounds easy doesn’t it! On some levels the process is simple – but you need to know up front that there’s a lot to each step and below I’m going to give you some pointers on each including some further reading.
Once you’ve really understood the audience, it’s a case of demonstrating the potential value the product (in excess of the cost) will bring to the audience in the form of a solved problem. If it’s clear that your product will deliver more value to the customer than they pay for it, then it’s a no brainer for the customer.
While sitting back and making money on affiliate or display ads is nice, your revenue slows down if you aren’t consistently creating new content and getting more traffic. This is why it’s essential to think about a blog not as a blog, but as a platform. Because on a platform, you can make money in a ton of different ways, as you’ll see below. To learn more about turning a blog into a platform, check out this post on how to make money blogging.
Below are the 10 goals I set for the blog in 2017, what I was able to accomplish in 2017, and my goals for 2018. These also include a detailed breakout of the $401,681 in blog income I made from the Millennial Money website.
Hi Christina! I should be thanking you for reporting your blog and income stats. If it were not for bloggers like yourself, this page wouldnt exist. You rock! Ill keep an eye on your reports each month and will be very eager to see any progress made.

I get a ton of sponsored content and direct advertising requests, but most of them are super random or for crappy products. I say no 99% of the time, but occasionally a brand will reach out with a cool new product or idea that can actually help you save money or make more money, so then it’s a win-win. I’ve sold a few sponsored posts (less than 5 in 2017) and will keep selling them when they make sense. There are also other brands that reach out and want to buy a display ad placement on the website. If it the brand aligns and the price is right, then I’ll sell the placement.
Just be aware that affiliate marketing with the wrong company can damage your brand. For instance, I started my blog w/ Blue Host because of Pat Flynn’s recommendation – which I am sure he was paid for. I am now on day 5 of my site, and e-mail being down, with NO estimate from Blue Host as to when it will be back up. As a consequence, I wouldn’t buy a thing he suggested or endorsed, because of my experience with someone he put his seal of approval on. Blue Host has a HORRIBLE reputation among the community, and I even wonder if anyone would “recommend” them unless they were being paid.
Thank you for sharing such a great post! I am new to blogging and I keep on searching for website like this. One of the hardship I encountered is content for my blog I am not very good at writing so I am planning to hire someone who could provide a very good content. Do you have any recommendation where to hire for someone who could write an article for me?
Wix is a hosted platform to build websites. It offers an easy way for small businesses to build a website using drag and drop tools. You can also add a blog to your website by adding the Wix Blog app.
My favorite part about this app is that it’s not always brand specific, like a lot of coupons are. So you’ll be able to scan “any brand of bread” for 50 cents off, etc. If you do coupon – you can STILL use Ibotta and get a rebate. For the diehard couponers out there, this will often result in getting an item for FREE. Crazy, right?
Hey Lori. You can read my post here on how I blog part time while working a full time job. It was a little bit crazy for sure, but it’s paid off. And don’t worry – I am not a writer either and you definitely don’t have to be 🙂
Once a month we publish the income earned from JustAGirlandHerBlog.com. It gives us a chance to reflect on the month– what went well and what didn’t go so well. We hope you follow along on our journey of turning our blog into a business!
Did you do your 301 redirects so that googs knows it’s really the same domain, just with a different name? I also changed domains—twice. yuck. Nobody was reading me back then, but it’s not fun while you’re going through just the same.
Display ads are nice when they are contextually relevant, but they can get really random and clutter up the experience. Also – a quick note: If you run a display ad network on your website, it can undercut your affiliate revenue since most affiliate commissions are based on last-click attribution, not first-click. So, for example, if someone clicks on your affiliate link, but then comes back to your website and gets served a re-marketing display ad from your affiliate and they click on it, you might not get the affiliate commission (since they clicked on a re-marketing ad for the brand last!). I realized I was losing a lot of affiliate commissions this way, so be careful if you have run display ads and have affiliates.
Wow that is great! $1k in a week is amazing for a side hustle. Im happy to hear you started your blog. Getting laid off is sometimes a blessing in disguise and hopefully it works out well for you. ILl check out your post too. 🙂
The biggest thing to keep in mind is that making money blogging is not possible by putting your site up and letting it sit there. The “if you build it, they will come” mentality doesn’t work here, so be sure you’re willing to put in the time. Most bloggers don’t see a spike of income for several months (sometimes years) after starting their blog. Before you dive too deep into blogging, remember these little bits of advice:
With dropshipping, you create the store, manage the website, and customer service. But a dropshipping service will take your orders and ship them out to your customers. They’re an invisible third party that your customers don’t even know about.
