If you’re not making any money from your blog, it’s hard to stay motivated to continue. The opposite is also true. For instance, how do you think I feel when I see this number pop up on my dashboard every day?
Just be aware that affiliate marketing with the wrong company can damage your brand. For instance, I started my blog w/ Blue Host because of Pat Flynn’s recommendation – which I am sure he was paid for. I am now on day 5 of my site, and e-mail being down, with NO estimate from Blue Host as to when it will be back up. As a consequence, I wouldn’t buy a thing he suggested or endorsed, because of my experience with someone he put his seal of approval on. Blue Host has a HORRIBLE reputation among the community, and I even wonder if anyone would “recommend” them unless they were being paid.
This is where many bloggers start. In many ways this model of making money from blogs is not dissimilar to how a magazine or newspaper sells ads. As your traffic and brand grows you’ll find advertisers will be willing to pay to get exposure to your audience.
Hi, I’ve been wanting to write for a while. I write for myself, I have lots of notebooks of visions, visions and signs in dreams and really discovered how to know and love myself through creating intuitive art with mandalas. It is my passion. I found my passion in my 40’s and giving workshops now to help others learn about listening to their heart and learning about themselves and blocages through forms and colors. I could sell digitals of my creations, a coloring book etc….. I am an intuitive and know nothing about computers and when I try to learn about the technical stuff…I get stuck!!! I’m pretty good at researching, writing, emails but technical stuff get me stuck!! I’ve always dreamed of being my own boss and travel, I want a job where I can work and earn an income from wherever I am in the world. I need help to get started!! Your story inspires me. Thank you so much!
BTW, I am going to try a new revenue stream. Since I’m an expert in the information technology field (it’s the truth), currently I am writing a book to be published online. I am focusing 100% on the ages of 18 – 30 for this book as I know how to reach theme with what my book is about. About 2 months or little less It will be available in online book companies as my first book and if all goes well, I can write more books as I have so many topics to cover. Still I will run my niched wordpress blog that is not in the Computer field.
Trust continues to be a major issue on the World Wide Web between bloggers and readers. Readers want to see bloggers posting lots and lots of meaningful content to their sites on a daily basis and giving them something to think about. It’s relatively easy for a person to post once a week and expect readers to be converted into repeat buyers when that’s certainly not the case toward being a successful and profitable blogger. Creating quality content and putting people first puts a full-time or part-time blogger in the front seat to earning honest and passive incomes from affiliate marketing.
As for the income reports I took a break from doing it because life got really busy and I wasnt seeing any big progress. Im still averaging anywhere from $250 to $600 per month just from the blog. Ill probably start doing the income reports again really soon.
Oh, wow! Just…wow! I knew the changes on this site would be phenomenal, but good grief, Jon! I’m nowhere close to where I should be, but this post will be my bookmarked ‘go-to’ when I need to remind myself of the most actionable process I should take as an ‘old newbie’. I know I need help, but this particular post is helping me to wrap my head around what I didn’t understand before. Thanks!
An amazing post! Thank you so much! Many valuable tips, especially the one with the reversed pricing, which I would have never thought of myself. Also a great way of writing that is easy to understand for everyone.
In the case of my blog, about 99% of my early readers would come, read a single article, and then leave forever. So instead of missing out on a potential regular, I started gathering email addresses using a service called Awebber, but these days I prefer GetResponse.
Did you do your 301 redirects so that googs knows it’s really the same domain, just with a different name? I also changed domains—twice. yuck. Nobody was reading me back then, but it’s not fun while you’re going through just the same.
In return for a reader’s email address, I would give away a free 7 day email course via email. About 85% of the time, that reader would stick around after the mini course to check out my new articles and updates.
Hi Christina! I should be thanking you for reporting your blog and income stats. If it were not for bloggers like yourself, this page wouldnt exist. You rock! Ill keep an eye on your reports each month and will be very eager to see any progress made.
Kristen, great job on your post! I have to admit when I scrolled down and read the numbers I laughed to myself. I am in the same boat now..I have few dollars and cents from various places but nothing to actually show on my bank statement. Thank you so much for posting this! It’s uplifting to know that my heard work will pay off like your hard work has done for you. Keep posting as I will keep reading!
Great post! An eye opener indeed. I have 2 blogs one for sales (small business) and one as a hobby posting lists of anything. I learned a lot from this single post. Thank you, Jon, for sharing your knowledge to us little guys. 🙂
wow!! i am really overwhelmed with this article, i just got an affiliate ad and decided to check it, and i browsed through and found out that i can add my code to my website blog, of which i had none, so i googled on how to set up a blog to do the business and also make money to support myself and family and i got this web. it blew my mind and as i am starting i am sure to use the ideas u have given and explore. and i pray to be successful in it in Jesus Name. Special Thanks to Jessica Knapp and God Bless YOU.
Hey! I really want to thank you for providing these tips for someone who is just starting out. Sometime its difficult to know where to start. With your post, it has given me a clear focus and motivation. Thanks so much Jamie
Yeah I am very familiar with pinch of yum and used to have them on here but to be honest, I got tired of calculating their net profit each month. For some reason, they list all their income and expenses but dont calculate the net and they have a lot of items for both. It’s really just me being lazy!! 😐
As a plugin developer, there are many ways you can distribute your plugins. Anyone can submit a free plugin to the WordPress.org plugin directory, as long as they follow the WordPress plugin guidelines. This is a great way to gain experience and build a reputation for yourself as a WordPress plugin developer.
This post is amazing. I am a newbie and had no idea about how to proceed. This was an eye opener. I was investing too much in SEO, though I neither had good content nor links with the influences.I am really grateful that you brought out this topic.
You will also need to decide whether you want to offer personalized support for your course. Some sites offer two tiers of each course: a basic version without support, and a premium version with email support.
Thank you for sharing this income report. I am excited for you, and am hopeful I will be posting a first income report soon too. I appreciate the breakdown of how you received your $56.83 (are you going to frame your first dollar? :-)).
WordPress was built to be a blogging platform and will always be a blogging platform. It does it well and perfect for blog only sites. However, once you start incorporating other functionality into your site such as membership based concepts, e-commerce, basically more complex website structure and content, my choice would go to Joomla! hands down. I’ve got over 10 years of Joomla experience and 7 for WP, so it’s a bit easier for me to make that statement.
with so many businesses now running blogs their is a huge demand for competent writers and bloggers. By promoting your services on your blog rather than on a freelancing network such as Upwork you can demand a higher rate. You could also offer similar services such as proofreading and editing too.
Hi, Teodora! We will be launching our updated Building a Framework course on March 7th that I think could be very helpful. It will be here when the time comes: https://justagirlandherblog.com/framework/. Thanks and good luck on your blogging journey!
