Some time a few years ago I was fed up writing for no one online. I wanted my words to be read and ultimately wanted to be paid to write. So I decided to educate myself on the subject. Here’s what I did:
Making money through blogging requires a carefully thought out topic. If you have an existing blog with a small audience, be honest when considering whether the topic has broad appeal that isn’t already covered by other established bloggers. If it does, great! Otherwise, there’s nothing wrong with starting a second blog that will be more successful in attracting an audience, marketing itself, and making money through a variety of methods described below.
As usual, Jon Morrow, you are the Master of Bloggers. I’m planning my first blog-site and this article, as other ones in SmartBlogger.com, has opened my eyes and expanded my view of what I want to achieve. Thank you so much for sharing you wisdom and knowledge.
you changed your domain name and you are doing well but i did the same but things are bad (no traffic, back links, mass email not working). I have just read your advice on domain change in one of your posts but now what should i do.
Congrats Grant! Incredible year, it’s been a ton of fun following along your journey. Really enjoyed the video of your interview as well. Keep up the great work and I’m sure you’ll crush your 2018 goals too!
Making money blogging can take a lot of persistence, but it can pay off in the long-run if youre starting out from scratch. Just remember that you dont have to use all of these money-making avenues at once. Consider what other people in your industry are doing, and start from there.
Tumblr is a little different than other blogging platforms. It is a microblogging platform with social networking features including following other blogs, reblogging, built-in sharing tools, and more.
Companies will often look to sponsor influential blogs within their niche. This usually includes having the brand mentioned within the header/sidebar of your website or even having cross-branding across the whole blog.
A very informative article , it helped me in clearing my doubts about online money making . Bloggers like you help hundreds of new and budding bloggers like me to understand things and move ahead . Thank you very much .
While I started out making money from my blogs through advertising and affiliate promotions today my #1 source of income is through selling eBooks and courses on my blogs. These ‘virtual products’ take work to create but have been lucrative for me and many other bloggers.

If you want to charge high prices, you absolutely can, but you must make big promises. Similarly, if you want to charge low prices, you absolutely can, but you must make small promises. In either case though, the value of the promise should be at least 10X the price.
As far as blogging, there are many bloggers that earn a blogging income doing the same thing and there are just fine.  Competition is good, and there are so many people to reach out to one blogger could never do it all.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share a bundle of knowledge. I am very new to blogging. I’ve been compiling my content in WordPress but have not gone live as of yet. Reading your article has helped me tremendously and greatly inspired me as well.
The reason this section is called “Great Content” is because your content really does need to be of a high standard. Everyday millions of blog posts are published on the internet and with so much competition for our limited attention spans you really have to be creating blog posts people are going to want to read and perhaps even share on social media or on their own blogs.
As an affiliate marketer, you promote someone else’s product or service to your readers. You link to that product or service using your unique affiliate link. When, someone clicks through that link and makes a purchase (or completes a desired action set by the company), you earn a commission. There are thousands of affiliate programs to join. Some I participate in:
Wow! I love that even though you didn’t make a lot of money, you still wrote about what you did make. It gives us newbie bloggers hope, especially after seeing the updates you’ve added about your more recent incomes. Thanks for the bit of reassurance.
Posts like this have reminded me that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and more than one way to be successful (as opposed to the 9-5 grind). Hard work really does pay off and I can’t wait to see the fruits of my (upcoming) labor!
Detailed and informative post. I’m a poker-player, I play online on different sites like 777spinslot. I’ve thought about my blog, where I can share different secrets of poker, tricks and tips. But I don’t know where to begin. May be your post will help me
Womp womp. I wrote a ton of blog posts the first half of 2017, but slowed down dramatically once I signed a book deal in June. Writing a book is no joke. For all of you who’ve written a book, mad respect. Some days it absolutely crushed me. I also had a really hard time writing consistently for both the blog and the book. In reality, I wrote about 80,000 words on the blog from January to June 2017 and then put most of that energy into writing over 120,000 words for the book from June to December 2017.
If you have not  yet created a blog but want to, check this easy step by step guide on how to create a blog in just minutes.  You too can make money blogging.  This however is not a get rich quick scheme or anything of the like.  It is very difficult to make money blogging and it takes so much time, experience and effort to accomplish this.  I know because in the short time I have been blogging, I have barely made any money at all from it and I’ve poured my heart and soul into Cash Flow Diaries.  I’m still trying to learn from others how to properly make money blogging and in the mean time, I will continue logging my journey to financial freedom and trying to help others get there.
Hi LaToya! When I started out, I literally just started writing. I wasn’t too worried about an audience – I just focused on writing consistently, figuring out my style, etc. If you need help with getting a blog, I have a free ebook you can download!
For example, if you’re currently only making, say, $20 a month with your blog, you might prefer to start small and just read an income report from someone making $100 per month to see how they are managing that.
