Along with Sponsored Content, there are two additional ways to advertise on LinkedIn: self-service ads and managed campaigns. The chart below offers a quick breakdown of advertising options on LinkedIn:
It’s best practice to use between three to five hashtags, despite the fact that the maximum you can add is 30 per Instagram post. Use your own, campaign specific hashtags as well as the more popular hashtags to increase the discoverability of your content. For example, try adding hashtags like #instagood (used is 300 million posts), or #tbt (Throwback Thursday), and don’t forget about industry specific ones. If you are in IT, the hashtag #IT or #tech will do just fine. Also, consider how you add hashtags, these can be added at the end of the post, in a comment or worked into the actual post, like GoPro does.

“These platforms help businesses scale and optimize their presence in marketing,” Jyri Kidwell, Pinterest head of marketing developer partnerships, told Marketing Land. “So now we want them to be able to scale and optimize their marketing on Pinterest.”
Linkedin isn’t like facebook or any other social network where people love to hang around and chit-chat. This where people get serious and get down to business. The prospects are already refined and are delevered on a silver platter – they are here to connect and network.
In our time, it is just difficult to do company without a web site and also without bring in clients via the Internet. One of one of the most crucial elements for me was ways to develop a website with superb design and load it with interesting and valuable material. I am not a brilliant in these aspects as well as I cannot spend a great deal of time for this. I’m trying to find a specialist IT firm in New york city, which is taken part in the production, assistance, as well as Public Relations internet site.I liked these guys here –  https://weareimmediate.com/   and https://clever-solution.com/ . Has anyone already worked with them? It will be interesting to find independent reviews about them.
During a soccer game in South America, Coca Cola turned tweets sent to the company during the game into confetti, which was then thrown out to the crowd. This was a great way to interact with customers in a current setting, with their own content. The company took a real-time event, where actual customers were in attendance, and brought the company to the people. And who doesn’t love confetti?
I have found the best way to get attention on LinkedIn is to join groups in your industry where your target audience or customers are actually engaging in discussion and participate in those discussions with them. When you become an active member of the group and provide valuable answers to other member’s questions. This can lead to to those members wanting to connect with you directly and the achievement of your ultimate goal on LinkedIn, whether it is to be hired or to get more people interested in your products or services.
Instagram is one of the strongest social media channels for highlighting collaborators and sharing customer success stories. Even if you don’t officially partner with a non-profit organization, you can give to charity or do a fundraiser a couple of times a year. It’s all good as long as the cause aligns with your brand values and mission. Take into account that not everyone is monitoring hashtags on social media, so tagging an account is usually a better choice if you want to get noticed.

Bollywood icons Priyanka Chopra and Shekhar Kapur were among others to tweet about the campaign. BUZZVALVE encouraged their participation by showing them how big of an impact they had on the initiative. Chandrashekhar explains:
Fiat took a very unusual approach to their social media marketing in Germany. Rather than engage with their followers, they actually blocked them. Their claim was that the car is “too fast to follow”.
In 1933, Procter & Gamble started to broadcast a radio serial drama sponsored by their Oxydol soap powder. The owners wanted to build brand loyalty by aiming to adult women. They could intermix their marketing messages into the serial drama. The term soap opera was born in this year, and they marked a precedent for native ads. Engagement with the audience was a key element with the creation of this content.[14]
Part of our mission statement at LinkedIn Marketing Solutions is to develop tools marketers can use with any size budget. You can reach the audience that matters most to your organization whether you’re running Sponsored Content, Sponsored InMail, and Display Ads in tandem, or just testing the water with a few Text Ads. There’s no budget too small. Even no budget at all.
In 1888, Johnson & Johnson introduced a publication called “Modern Methods of Antiseptic Wound Treatment” that was targeted to doctors that used bandages. They also released two publications that contained tips for the medical community.[10]
During the campaign, over 500,000 characters were ‘donated’ by Twitter Users, helping to spread the #FairTweets message around the world. By getting their fans to drive the campaign, Ben and Jerry’s were able to spread the message far beyond their 100,00 followers.

For example, square-shaped and vertical videos perform best with Pinterest’s grid design, but the site doesn’t have best practices around video length, which has been a major challenge for advertisers on other platforms. Snapchat caps videos at 10 seconds, while Instagram clips can be up to 60 seconds long, and Facebook encourages brands to make the most of the first few seconds of a clip.

One tip I always share for small business owners is to join LinkedIn groups that are relevant to their target demographic. Not only is this a great way to “listen in” on what your audience is talking about, there may [also] be times for small business owners to interact or offer their advice. More importantly, you can message the members of groups you are in, even if you aren’t connected. LinkedIn InMail adds up quickly, so this is a great way to save money when building relationships with potential clients. — Lauren Covello, content marketing strategist, Ripen eCommerce
Even, the hard core Amish don’t ‘cut off’ friends and family who choose to not fully live their life in the inner circle of the faithful in their community. If the concept is that basic it stands to reason that as a parody—‘resistance isn’t futile’—and cutting off all the circles of influence who don’t join your inner circle of twenty to ‘reach diamond’ is: And just uncouth at that. So, “no one is a prophet in their own country”: Go out and look for like-minded people to expand that circle without dressing up in business clothes at 5 a.m. on a Saturday morning to head to the cult like MLM “Ra! Ra! Session.” Real friends and family are hard to come by. Grow your marketing network without burning the people who care about you most. And get solid like-minded leads without getting up earlier than any sane Adventist would on a Saturday.
Keeping your customers interested is an essential part of any effective marketing campaign. Reward your loyal followers with exclusive content. Let them be the first to know about new products, services or events. Create teaser photos that build anticipation or satisfy curiosity for your new releases, office openings or stores. This kind of preview makes your Instagram followers feel special and keeps them coming back for more insider information.
My company helps small businesses generate leads on LinkedIn. Clients tell us what kind of people make high-quality customers for them. We search on LinkedIn for people who fit their criteria, and then introduce them. (We do it so it looks like the client is introducing themselves, but we do all the work for them.) Then we stay in touch with the people who have expressed interest, again using LinkedIn. We do daily status updates and weekly LinkedIn blog posts to keep the client’s name in front of their network. We also send monthly emails that share information about the kinds of problems our clients can solve for their customers, and share the results they have achieved for other customers. We also make offers, such as inviting people to a webinar or offering a white paper. The result is a simple, inexpensive, systematic process for doing lead generation, with all the work done through LinkedIn. —Judy Schramm, CEO, ProResource, Inc.
“We want to tell people about us in the most engaging way we can,” said Community Manager Helena Langdon told Audiense in an interview. “It’s our goal to make our pages a place on social media where people want to visit and enjoy seeing in their timelines, then people won’t mind when we try to sell them drinks every now and again.”
The percentage of an MLM company’s total profit that is ultimately distributed to its participants (the sales force), away from the MLM owners or shareholders, differs from one MLM company to the next. However, the percentage earmarked to be paid to participants is usually a quite smaller share of overall company profits. The earmarked figure is then distributed in complex compensation plans which, ultimately, funnel most of it to a few individual participants in the upper-most levels of the MLM participant pyramid. The remaining majority of participants (often over 99.5% or more) receive no returns, or negligible return which are more often than not at a net loss after they deduct expenses which were incurred in the promotion of their “independent businesses”.
Especially if your company is B2B, be sure to have a company profile on LinkedIn, and encourage all employees to have personal profiles that link them to your company. Each person has talents and skills they contribute to your business that can be highlighted with your company’s keywords in each employee’s summary and experience areas. LinkedIn Recommendations can also increase your company’s visibility in the channel. Ask employees to join groups where they can share their insights and answer questions… and train them to always include a personalized note when reaching out to others, and best if that note offers your reason for connecting.
Yes, it is good, I agree. But Instagram is useless without at least thousand followers. Before act you must find followers. Solving the problem I faced I have found many programs. I think that the best one is zen-promo.com ,because it has city-based search. So you can find followers right in your city.
The ads API—the software that lets these third-party marketing developers integrate with Pinterest—has been in the works since the beginning of the year and was first revealed publicly in April, but no partners were named until today. The API is seen as a crucial component for Pinterest to grow its business and gain consideration among more marketers as they plan campaigns.
The tip here is to get the timing right when asking for testimonials and being specific in your recommendation request. The best time is right after you’ve completed the job for your client or working with a colleague. This helps them to give more meaning and depth to their testimonial while it’s still fresh in their memory. And your request for the recommendation must be personalised (never use the ready-to-use template that LinkedIn offers). Outline some questions that will help guide them to write a testimonial that can help future clients to make a decision i.e. what were the results before and after your service/product? What was their experience working with you? How did they find the communication/process/turnaround time?

As part of its Cheetos Museum campaign, Cheetos and agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners created short video posts designed specifically for Pinterest that showed off some of the best shapes that resembled works of art. In keeping with Pinterest’s demographic, the campaign was targeted based on what the shapes looked like.
Video ads are available via all three ways brands buy ads with Pinterest: the self-serve platform aimed at smaller marketers, Pinterest marketing partners that buy ads through the site’s API or through account managers for top-spending advertisers.
Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.

The LinkedIn Help page is controlled by an extremely responsive support and communications team, who is always offering help to those who seek it. Since the questions are being answered on Twitter, this can be a valuable resource for those to see answers to similar questions they may have.

Instead, Amazon maximized the power of this tweet by including a real and glowing review of the product. The review is slightly humorous but still convinces others that this is a product they should check out, a product they need.
Ted Rubin has been on so many “best of” lists when it comes to Twitter followers that it’s hard to keep track. Suffice to say, that if you’re looking for the latest about branding, marketing and relationship-building, Ted is the man to follow.
Many companies had different types of targeted mlm leads, including company specific, live tv leads, local leads, gender specific, product specific, area code specific, among others. Targeted mlm leads are the favorite of the Networkers I talked to, as it give people a more focused lead, and a more targeted impact.
“With the addition of Pinterest, we are now able to give our customers full publishing, analysis and reporting capabilities across all the biggest platforms, complementing the successful partnerships we have with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube,” said Robert Lang, Socialbakers CEO. “Pinterest is the perfect place for advertisers to engage their audience and we’re pleased to be able to give our customers the ability to measure, optimize and monetize their spend on the key platforms in one tool.”

Thanks Lewis. Got to love LinkedIn and now with the acquisition by Microsoft, it’s going to be amazing. As usual thanks for sharing your LinkedIn insight. I have been using Linkedin for a long time and gradually building an amazing business on it 🙂

Don’t toss Twitter to the side thinking it’s only a social connector. Social media can be a powerful marketing tool to promote brand and increase awareness. How will you use Twitter for your next marketing campaign?
This year, Pinterest has been laying the foundation for more advertising with the technology that enables marketers to manage their campaigns using familiar tools, similar to the systems they use to market on other social media platforms such as Facebook or Twitter.
Sales and marketing are about building relationships. People don’t buy from companies. They buy from people they know, like and trust. It takes time to develop these. Your company may have the perfect solution to my problem, but if I don’t like you, I’m not buying. While this strategy may take longer, your hit rate will be much higher.

Linkedin is a great marketplace for the professionals. I called it marketplace because this is the place where serious people make their profile to build their business and ultimately boost their sales.
By fusing a fun and active challenge with desirable prizes, LG ensured that their competition would reach a large number of their target market. The campaign received 5,000 tweets on the first day and went on to reach 50,000 by the end. This, combined with impressive engagement rates of 38% from their sponsored links, helped them to quadruple their smartphone sales among 16-24 year olds during the weeks following the campaign.

Time and time again, I have to repeat many (if not all!) these points to them; some learn, some don’t. But the ones who learn will definitely see better results and probably become one of those bloggers who gets paid to do what they love!
The more subscribers you get, the more money you make. Granted, your relationship with your subscribers and the quality of your products or services and dozens of other factors still matter, but to drive revenue, focus on email list growth. To make money blogging, it’s absolutely essential.
I have a blog that uses a wordpress theme, and blue host hosts my domain name. However, I don’t really understand what a platform is and I don’t know what my platform is. I am planning to start a new food blog with a different focus and use wordpress.org (whatever that actually means.) Does wordpress.org help you with setting up and explaining whether or not they are your platform? I am a granny (79 to be exact.) I have a three year old cooking blog that never gets visitors except for family and friends. I would like to do better with my blog, but I don’t even understand the idea of platform. Can you give me some advice as to how to proceed?
1. Get a squeeze page. 2. Drive traffic through ads 3.Get an autoresponder. 4. Collect leads. 5. Market to the leads. What I don’t see mentioned is “choosing your niche” the niche that you are passionate about.
My dad and I invest in multi-family real estate. Through blogging, I’m hoping to chronicle our experiences and challenges, and provide tips to people who might be interested. Making money doing this would be awesome. Do you think such an idea can fly?
Similarly to CPC advertising, cost per mile (CPM) ads can bring in good steady income from your blog if you’re piling through large levels of traffic. They are very easy to set up and you really don’t need any knowledge of coding to do so – all you have to do is create an advertising account and add the code to your site; simple.
Now, once you and I have taken advantage of that info. (and I am still in the process of launching) then we will be in a better position to either thank Jon or criticise him. Of course, timing is almost everything but with the amount of free flowing, easy to read, writing that Jon provides, which is the hallmark of all good communications, plus incorporating such useful content, then I like to think that if we could follow that example then eventually we (yes, you and I, Bill) would be rewarded with fans and finance.
Instead of a job board, you could create an event calendar where you charge people to advertise their events. This also works well if you already have an established audience, because businesses will be willing to pay to reach your audience.
I have an affiliate question (hopefully you aren’t annoyed at them by now): I want to start a couponing website for a specific niche, that will provide coupons and deals to users at certain stores. What do I do if the store that I really want to promote does not have an affiliate program? Thanks again!
#20 – Making Sense of Cents – $71,761 in April of 2016 – Michelle has been publishing her income reports for quite a while now, and they are always so inspiring. Well over half of her income in April came from affiliates with the rest coming from ads, sponsorships, staff writing, and client work. The income is listed is before her expenses.
I find this website useful however, I also find it bias towards WordPress. Like at the top of the page list the blogging pros for each then the cons NOT WORDPRESS so they suck. Am I the only one who got that vibe? Guess I will keep poking around. Thank you xx
Are you looking for the top ways to make money online that are NOT scams? WordPress is the largest publishing platform on the planet, and it powers over 27% of all websites. You can use WordPress and blogging to earn money online by doing what you love. In this article, we will share the 25 best ways to make money online blogging with WordPress.
This was a win-win! First, I was able to share my experience and give an honest review of something I was using. Second, a reader trusted my opinion and used my link to make a purchase. The reader was able to get the item for the standard price and I was able to earn a commission. How exciting!
Point #6 about deliberately delaying the sale happens to have this added benefit of giving the blogger more insight into the audience through the way they interact with the blog. i.e. The posts they read, the comments they leave etc.
Once a month we publish the income earned from JustAGirlandHerBlog.com. It gives us a chance to reflect on the month– what went well and what didn’t go so well. We hope you follow along on our journey of turning our blog into a business!
Hi Matt! It’s difficult to get started monetizing the blog especially when the ad companies dont approve. Just keep making tweaks to your blog and keep sending the requests to join. Eventually they will let you in.
Is there a hosting service where you can actually pay BY THE MONTH? I get that you have a money back guarantee, but that’s still a lot of money for me to shell out for something that I’m just starting out. If you are looking to blog to hopefully help generate income, then it seems natural to me for a host to let someone start out slowly.
Consider a free blogging service. Many people opt to create a free blog using popular services such as WordPress.com or Google Blogger. This is a good option for people who aren’t familiar with web design, don’t want to pay for their own hosting, or enjoy the ease and stability that comes with these services. These services do have limitations on how you can make money using them, however, so make sure your blog won’t break the terms of service.
Affiliate marketing is a kind of performance-based marketing. With this form of marketing, business owners reward affiliates for each customer brought to the company through the affiliate’s independent advertising endeavors. There are four key players in affiliate marketing:
Just a quick question: Is it a mandatory thing to publish your income reports? I think I would find that a bit too transparent. Do you do it to teach others, or is there another reason? Thanks in advance for your reply!
I tell new bloggers to allow 3-6 months to make a decent part-time income and 1-2 years to make a consistent full-time income. There are always exceptions of course, but after being active in the blogging world for almost 14 years, these are reasonable averages.
Hey Sumalee! It doesn’t hurt to start early – just make sure you have some great content published first so readers who are coming from social media sites can see what you have to offer and will want to come back and read more 🙂 And if you want to monetize – go for it! It took me some time to build up – mostly because I had no clue what I was doing – so the earlier you can get started, the better!
Just one word: WHOA! This post was so good that I bookmarked it!! 2 things amazed: your story about how it took about 8 years to bring it to that point (proves that there’s no overnight miracle that can happen in a snap of a finger) and the fact that you use tools and strategies for your every single moves while blogging!
Thank you so much for this! I definitely took some notes! Sometimes I feel like its all just a pipe dream to make that kind of money from blogging! But I’m committed and anything worth doing is worth doing well! Thank you for the inspiration!
Here at Smart Blogger, we strive for one dollar per subscriber per month in sales, and I think that’s a good place to start when you’re a beginner too. In other words, an email list of 1,000 subscribers should result in at least $1,000 per month in sales, 10,000 subscribers would result in $10,000 per month in sales, and so on.
While you need decent traffic to do a direct deal with an advertisers there are ad networks (like Google AdSense) that act as a middleman and enable smaller publishers to run ads on their blogs. This is where many bloggers start (I did too).
I’m impressed about the depth of insight you seem to command in this area. It is true there are lots of sites that means opposite of what they say or write but yours is different. Keep on doing a good job out there.
It all depends where the most people are that will be interested in your site / niche / product. I target ads in countries such as UK, USA, Canada and India, only because there are vast numbers of English speakers there with enough disposable income to want to buy through my sites.
For 2018, I’ve set a revenue goal of $500,000 which might be achievable if the new courses being developed are successful and website traffic continues to grow. I’m also planning to donate a lot of money in 2018 to support Ugandan school fees (my wife works there) and invest in financial literacy initiatives in the United States.
The way I do it is I find all the big players in my niche and put their URL into SEMrush to see what they rank for and what content does best for them in terms of traffic and keyword rankings. This will then give me some ideas on content and how to enter that niche and try to gain some of that traffic.

Truth is, it would be silly to quit your day job when you are building a blogging income. Your reason for trying to make money with your blog is to have extra money.. Right?  So why leave your job that is giving you and income?

LinkedIn isn’t the only brand with dedicated customer service and support Twitter handles. Examples from other brands include @NikeSupport from Nike, @AskTarget from Target, and @HubSpotSupport from HubSpot.
The entire thing was weird and hilarious. It was also a great example of a brand hopping on a popular hashtag (in this case, #TheSoundofMusicLive) to chime in on the already-popular conversation. In the two hours of live-tweeting, the company tweeted 38 times, garnered over 44 million social impressions for that week, and picked up over 4,000 new followers.
The personal finance site Mint.com used content marketing, specifically their personal finance blog MintLife, to build an audience for a product they planned to sell. According to entrepreneur Sachin Rekhi, Mint.com concentrated on building the audience for MintLife “independent of the eventual Mint.com product.”[24] Content on the blog included how to guides on paying for college, saving for a house, and getting out of debt. Other popular content included in-depth interview and a series of financial disasters called “Trainwreck Tuesdays.” Popularity of the site surged as did demand for the product. “Mint grew quickly enough to sell to Intuit for $170 million after three years in business. By 2013, the tool reached 10 million users, many of whom trusted Mint to handle their sensitive banking information because of the blog’s smart, helpful content.”[25]

In an October 15, 2010 article, it was stated that documents of a MLM called Fortune Hi-Tech Marketing reveal that 30 percent of its representatives make no money and that 54 percent of the remaining 70 percent only make $93 a month, before costs. Fortune was under investigation by the Attorneys General of Texas, Kentucky, North Dakota, and North Carolina with Missouri, South Carolina, Illinois, and Florida following up complaints against the company.[37]
Google’s Twitter feed is hardly a selling platform. Occasionally it tweets about product development but primarily it’s a collection of everything it considers important. Whether it’s a worthy cause, political issues, amusing anecdotes, or something poignant. The tweet above was retweeted 10,032 times and liked by 17,715. Comments weren’t all positive, but Google stood up for what it believes in and received engagement of 27.7K.

It was an absolute pleasure doing business with you. I was very pleased with the speed that you delivered your product. We ordered a specific quantity of addresses but Listguy was very generous in supplying 5,000 more addresses that we had requested at no further cost. We were able to acquire the addresses we needed in the time frame we required. I would definitely recommend Listguy!
Fiat took a very unusual approach to their social media marketing in Germany. Rather than engage with their followers, they actually blocked them. Their claim was that the car is “too fast to follow”.
Between the 1940s and 1950s, TV was in their golden age, and advertising took over the media. Companies focused on sales rather than connecting with the public. There were few ventures into content marketing, and no very prominent campaigns.

Remember, having an impactful and purposeful testimonial can have a positive effect on your bottom line. Be sure to display those testimonials on your website, email signature and other relevant online spaces to gain more exposure.
The end result of the MLM business model is, therefore, one of a company (the MLM company) selling its products/services through a non-salaried workforce (“partners”) working for the MLM company on a commission-only basis while the partners simultaneously constitute the overwhelming majority of the very consumers of the MLM company’s products/service that they, as participants of the MLM, are selling to each other in the hope of one day themselves being at the top of the pyramid. This creates great profit for the MLM company’s actual owners and shareholders.[citation needed]
Relationships are one of the most important things we have in life. The relationships we build are so powerful because they allow us to give; they also provide us with the support and encouragement we need on our journey. LinkedIn has proven to be an incredible platform to help us build relationships. When we connect with others – whether they be potential clients, business partners, or mentors – we learn and grow as individuals and discover new ways we can become even better at what we do and what we have to offer.

Pinterest has selected 10 partners — Ahalogy, Buffer, Curalate, Expion, Newscred, Percolate, Shoutlet, Spredfast, Sprinklr and Tailwind — to launch the program, giving them access to the company’s content publishing API. Some — including Pinterest specialist Tailwind — already had beta access to the API but all now are offering their customers tools to manage Pinterest along with other networks.
At its core, LinkedIn is a professional social network. It’s all about career development, professional connections, industry discussions and other types of business-related activities. It’s not like other social media marketing platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram; there, businesses have direct access to consumers that they can easily market to with status updates, images and other casual posts.
Eric Scheibeler, a high level “Emerald” Amway member: “UK Justice Norris found in 2008 that out of an IBO [Independent Business Owners] population of 33,000, ‘only about 90 made sufficient incomes to cover the costs of actively building their business.’ That’s a 99.7 percent loss rate for investors.”[33]
Many companies had different types of targeted mlm leads, including company specific, live tv leads, local leads, gender specific, product specific, area code specific, among others. Targeted mlm leads are the favorite of the Networkers I talked to, as it give people a more focused lead, and a more targeted impact.

“Roland Whitsell, a former business professor who spent 40 years researching and teaching the pitfalls of multilevel marketing”: “You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone making over $1.50 an hour, (t)he primary product is opportunity. The strongest, most powerful motivational force today is false hope.”[38]
Independent non-salaried participants, referred to as distributors (variously called “associates”, “independent business owners”, “independent agents”, etc.), are authorized to distribute the company’s products or services. They are awarded their own immediate retail profit from customers plus commission from the company, not downlines, through a multi-level marketing compensation plan, which is based upon the volume of products sold through their own sales efforts as well as that of their downline organization.

The combined number of recruits from these cycles are the sales force which is referred to as the salesperson’s “downline”. This “downline” is the pyramid in MLM’s multiple level structure of compensation.[6]
As a consumer, when you tweet at a company that has over 16,000 employees, you may not expect a response very quickly (if at all). But JetBlue is on another level — and they’ve done a fantastic job differentiating themselves on Twitter by finding clever ways to exceed our expectations.
Take some time to create a great headline and introductory paragraph that will immediately capture the reader’s attention and make those first 3-5 points strong and compelling. Don’t save the best ones for your own site. Your best points should be made on LinkedIn so that the reader is curious and clicks the link to read the rest of the article.
In general, design starts at the very beginning, as you map out a content marketing strategy. Understanding the brand’s personas and marketing goals will shape the basic style of each design—each should be useful to your personas, and true to your brand voice.
Whenever we’re asked where one can learn PPC on their own, we direct them to the AdHawk Academy. Trend spotting refers to the latest consumers’ comments about a brand, product or service that must be targeted. Some tools can be provided by Google Trends, Trendsmap (Twitter) and other sites that report what is in everybody’s mouths worldwide.

Walter J. Carl stated in a 2004 Western Journal of Communication article that “MLM organizations have been described by some as cults (Butterfield, 1985),[46] pyramid schemes (Fitzpatrick & Reynolds, 1997),[47] or organizations rife with misleading, deceptive, and unethical behavior (Carter, 1999),[48] such as the questionable use of evangelical discourse to promote the business (Höpfl & Maddrell, 1996),[49] and the exploitation of personal relationships for financial gain (Fitzpatrick & Reynolds, 1997)”.[47][50] In China, volunteers working to rescue people from the schemes have been physically attacked.[51]

Without taking a step back and analyzing what worked and didn’t, marketing becomes a guessing game. The truth is, you can read all the articles in the world about the best practices and publishing times, but you will only find out what works for your clients through testing and measuring results.
There’s no right or wrong number of times you should Tweet each day, or when. Instead, focus on creating a regular cadence of content that’s relevant to your target audience and authentic to your business.
Customers have a natural curiosity about where their products come from, and you can use Instagram to show them their whole lifecycle. This is especially relevant for companies that sell environmentally friendly or FairTrade products. Source images to demonstrate how products are made – from the base material, production and distribution.
While JetBlue uses their main @JetBlue Twitter account to handle customer service, LinkedIn actually uses a separate account called @LinkedInHelp. The folks at LinkedIn don’t use this account in the traditional sense, and its goals certainly don’t revolve around gaining new followers. Instead, the purpose of the account is to give LinkedIn users an easy way get their questions answered quickly through Twitter.
Called Marketing Developer Partners, this is Pinterest’s first official program to give API access to companies offering social media management platforms to brands and businesses. Facebook and Twitter both have similar programs to help coordinate third-party integration, which makes this a natural move for Pinterest as it continues make a case to be a serious alternative for marketers’ dollars.
For freelancers, one of the strategies that can be super-successful is browsing the full-time jobs for your type of work, and then pitching them freelance help while they’re making that hire. I got a $1-a-word gig like that once, and know many other freelance writers who’ve done well with it, too. I’ve been a staff writer, and my experience is it takes 6 months to a year for them to make that hire! By then, the next person has quit, so often, the freelance help becomes an ongoing need.

Businesses focused on increasing sales through content marketing should look at traditional e-commerce metrics including click-through-rate from a product-page to check-out and completion rates at the check-out. Altogether, these form a conversion funnel. Moreover, to better understand customers’ buying habits, they should look at other engagement metrics like time spent per page, number of product-page visits per user, and re-engagement.
The power of numbers behind the internet make my leads seem as if someone handed John Henry the Jackhammer, then Kasparov hooked up Deep Blue with hardware to automate that, then Telsa came along with some regionally sourced AC to power the thing and as a result you sit on the beach worry free. “Look MOM! NO HANDS!!”
Treat LinkedIn like any other form of marketing that you do, and get clued up on the latest trends. People don’t want to be interrupted, so try your best to be “discovered” on LinkedIn. It’s this approach to Twitter that makes them stand out from the crowd — and it certainly works for their audience. Their head of digital and communities Joe McEwan says that people really connect with their brand because they talk like human beings, without jargon or “technical mumbo jumbo.”
The MLB (Major League Baseball) is a complex system of teams, players, statistics, trades, and more. Instead of housing all these activities under a single Twitter handle, they’ve done a great job segmenting different parts of the game into different Twitter handles. (And they list all their affiliated Twitter handles in their cover photos — a very nice touch.)
Assuming the blue individual recruits five, and those five recruit their own five, and so on, the maximum theoretical cycles of recruits possible in the “downline” of the blue individual is 14 cycles (514 = 6.1 billion people), after which point the total human population is exceeded.
“We’re going to continue to add more third-party measurement providers—the goal is we want this to be verified by the broader ecosystem [and built] the way that video buyers want to buy,” Bidgoli said.
The support factor was key. Once the MLM leads were purchased, was there somehow support in case of need? The support should be somehow resolving issues that arise, including bad mlm leads, wrong numbers or emails, and general problems. The MLM Leads companies we found that were the best, had a support system. And some type of guarantee also should be part of the network marketing lead program.

The campaign was promoted primarily through AAdvantage and American Airlines’ social media channels with the goals of driving traffic to the Deal 30 microsite to increase buzz for the remaining deals and to attract new Twitter followers for the recently launched @AAdvantage Twitter account.
NetWorld Solutions created GoGranny as a way to spoof competitor GoDaddy’s Superbowl ads. The mockumentary vignettes featured Cloris Leachman and were hosted on YouTube. The sassy “GoGranny” took over Twitter for three days during Super Bowl weekend and tweeted carefully targeted messages that caught the attention of influencers like Guy Kawasaki and Scott Monty. Top mommy bloggers at BlogHer also participated. In just five days, the campaign had inspired 3,000 tweets and 20 million impressions on Twitter. #GoGranny also became a trending topic. Besides the attention the campaign garnered, the company saw sales of its .CO domain increase by more than 500% during Super Bowl weekend.

There is still some debate about whether this campaign was successful or not, but one thing Verizon did well with this ad was to humanize an experience. Even if the campaign didn’t produce the desired results, people were still talking about Verizon and their FiOS service, which is a positive thing.
Revenue and total profit of the MLM company is thus largely generated from the pockets of participants within the MLM pyramid who are simultaneously both salespersons and consumers at once. Only an insignificantly small proportion of revenue and total profit is derived from non-participant retail consumers who are outside of the MLM participant pyramid. Many MLM companies will not disclose what percentage of its consumers are simultaneously their own participants. Other MLMs do not keep said figures because they do not differentiate between participant consumerism versus non-participant retail consumerism.

Distill your content marketing strategy into your blog schedule/strategy. The company blog can and should be used to cross-promote other content, which will help keep posts on a consistent schedule. If you don’t have a marketing team member who is familiar with SEO, this is one area where you might want to consult a professional.
MLMs have been made illegal in some jurisdictions as a mere variation of the traditional pyramid scheme, including in mainland China.[15][16] In jurisdictions where MLMs have not been made illegal, many illegal pyramid schemes attempt to present themselves as MLM businesses.[7] Given that the overwhelming majority of MLM participants cannot realistically make a net profit, let alone a significant net profit, but instead overwhelmingly operate at net losses, some sources have defined all MLMs as a type of pyramid scheme, even if they have not been made illegal like traditional pyramid schemes through legislative statutes.[4][17][18]
Twenty times per month divided by four weeks per month equals five times per week.
When it comes to LinkedIn, one have to keep B2B audience in mind! I generally share all the posts that are important through a B2B point of view. Another important thing to keep in mind is quality here. Your LinkedIn audience is quite well informed, so to impress them and get business from them I share exceptionally good quality contents that offer some added value. Also I share great contents from other authority bloggers. You can say, it’s a 50:50 ratio; 50% my own posts, 50% from other awesome bloggers out there.
But the truth is, an MLM lead purchase is NOT a purchase, but an investment in your business. One good MLM lead can produce tens of thousands of dollars in volume and revenues. If you understand that, then the pricing should not be as important as the quality and training of the Network marketing lead company. And of course, REPUTATION had a lot to do with the selection as well. Some companies that came across really well, when checked on, did not have a very good reputation for MLM Leads and service.
I hope that I have done all that I can to be a good neighbor on Linked In. We all know the marketing mantra that goes people have to like you, then trust you, and then they will buy from you. I’m not doing this just to get something down the road. That’s just the end result that hopefully will come from helping others online.
Asking questions is an effective way to to interact with your audience, bring readers into the conversation, and understand people’s opinions. Tweet open-ended questions or use Twitter polls to survey on specific responses.

Participants had to register their AAdvantage number on a microsite, tweet the #Deal30 hashtag and follow the @AAdvantage account to enter for a chance to win 30,000 AAdvantage miles.

MLMs are also criticized for being unable to fulfill their promises for the majority of participants due to basic conflicts with Western cultural norms.[52] There are even claims that the success rate for breaking even or even making money are far worse than other types of businesses:[53] “The vast majority of MLMs are recruiting MLMs, in which participants must recruit aggressively to profit. Based on available data from the companies themselves, the loss rate for recruiting MLMs is approximately 99.9%; i.e., 99.9% of participants lose money after subtracting all expenses, including purchases from the company.”[53] In part, this is because encouraging recruits to further “recruit people to compete with [them]”[4] leads to “market saturation.”[20] It has also been claimed “(b)y its very nature, MLM is completely devoid of any scientific foundations.”[54]

The main sales pitch of MLM companies to their participants and prospective participants is not the MLM company’s products or services. The products/services are largely peripheral to the MLM model. Rather, the true sales pitch and emphasis is on a confidence given to participants of potential financial independence through participation in the MLM.[13] This is referred to as “selling the dream”.[14]

Go back and read the content marketing definition one more time, but this time remove the relevant and valuable. That’s the difference between content marketing and the other informational garbage you get from companies trying to sell you “stuff.” Companies send us information all the time – it’s just that most of the time it’s not very relevant or valuable (can you say spam?). That’s what makes content marketing so intriguing in today’s environment of thousands of marketing messages per person per day.

Pinterest’s Marketing Partners (PMP) build tools and services to help businesses scale their presence and marketing on Pinterest and create a richer experience for Pinners. For example; one thing that many people don’t know is that if you ask for a connection from someone that doesn’t know who you are and they decide to tell LinkedIn that they don’t know you, it counts negatively towards your profile. If enough of them say that they don’t know you, your LinkedIn will get restricted and depending on the situation, even banned.
Links manifest their choices; clicks evidence their decisions. Elite MLM Leads helps you recruit more effectively by creating persuasive systems that help to put your prospects in the right frame of mind, therefore dramatically increasing your chances of recruiting them into your business.
Make sure to connect your Twitter account to LinkedIn.  Others talk about why this is bad because a lot of your messaging won’t be targeted for your LinkedIn audience (especially when you use “@” symbols and hashtags), but for the most part, my message is staying at the top of mind for my connections on LinkedIn and for me that’s a powerful thing.  Want to clean things up?  Just use the #in with a Twitter update and it will sync to your LinkedIn account when there is a specific message you want members to see.

Rather, I’d like to life a simple but comfortable life, say, of 5 figures per year. Having extra to give away on occasion would be fine. But my main goal is to teach, and by teaching to help people who have enough desire to be helped that they would actually make an effort to learn.
Learning to do all that is what is hard, but once you get all that clicking together then a blogging income will come pretty fast. What I will say is you have to like blogging, you have to like all the things that go with blogging for you to succeed long term.
Still, there are benefits to ad networks. It’s totally passive. You put the code in, set it, and forget it. They will earn you money without you having to do another thing. With affiliate networks, you do have to be strategic and put thought into what you’re promoting regularly.
When you click that blue button you’ll be taken to our guide to starting a blog. Once you buy your domain name, we’ll hook you up with our $20 Pro Blogging ebook totally free! This book will help you to start earning money from travel blogging and turn your travel blogging hobby into a career.
Companies want to get their product in front of potential customers. They may be interested in advertising on your blog if your readers are their ideal customers. Here are ways to incorporate advertising into your blog:
Below are the 10 goals I set for the blog in 2017, what I was able to accomplish in 2017, and my goals for 2018. These also include a detailed breakout of the $401,681 in blog income I made from the Millennial Money website.
One thing that really struck me in this post is the reverse sales funnel. I’ve always thought to start off cheaper then gradually charge more money. To be honest, this reverse funnel sounds scary, but since you said you had great results, I should probably give it a try.
Thanks so much Jon. I have been struggling to ‘get off the ground’ and am devouring your insight and knowledge. You offer such invaluable and proven information and are totally inspiring. I know I CAN DO THIS and will continue to soak up your posts as they come through. I won’t wast too much time now on Facebook and Twitter which I’ve been trying to get my head around. You see I am very new to everything!
We believe that WordPress outperforms all other platforms. It is powerful, easy to use, affordable, and the most flexible of all available blogging platforms. Here are all the reasons why you should use WordPress.
Wonderful post. there were so many ideas that I got from you and now I can’t wait to update my comment blog posts. Very well done and thank you so much for sharing such n important post. I also appreciated all the comments you generated from some very experienced bloggers.

Reddit – ads appear on the top of the various pages. They are obviously ads so users don’t feel tricked into clicking on them. When people choose to select an ad they usually know it. So there is little chance of upsetting customers this way.
This is a very hard question to answer. We started earning an income after about a year of blogging, but we weren’t going at it very hard for the first 6 months. We would go on the blog every month or so, add an article and a few pictures and that was about it.
Man 100k per month from just a single blog is absolutely Awesome. You are really an All-In-One Internet guider. I am starting out with my new blog, we are at setup stage, we are preparing free courses for email optins.
Truth is, it would be silly to quit your day job when you are building a blogging income. Your reason for trying to make money with your blog is to have extra money.. Right?  So why leave your job that is giving you and income?
I don’t know many bloggers who earn money from their blog alone. By that, I’m referencing mainly to my previous point about thinking bigger than your blog. Most bloggers don’t earn a living just from selling sidebar ads and writing one post everyday. A Beautiful Mess sells books and e-courses. Designlovefest teaches Blogshop, a popular Photoshop workshop for bloggers. Oh Joy! just created a line of products for Target. These are some of the biggest bloggers I know of, yet they are constantly innovating and thinking of new ways to use their blog as a creative starting point and marketing tool. Be an innovator. Branch out.
Kristen, great job on your post! I have to admit when I scrolled down and read the numbers I laughed to myself. I am in the same boat now..I have few dollars and cents from various places but nothing to actually show on my bank statement. Thank you so much for posting this! It’s uplifting to know that my heard work will pay off like your hard work has done for you. Keep posting as I will keep reading!

This is one of the best things I’ve read on the internet when it comes to the whole “make money online” space. Honest, transparent, but also motivating. Love what you’re doing and how you prioritize helping others. Glad you’re making a good buck to do all the work you do. Can’t wait to see what 2018 holds. -Rich
Jon, amazing article! I would just add to your #15 regarding e-mail subscribers. The number you described is real if you have a legit database of subscribers behind it (don’t know if you take this here for granted).
You are probably using WordPress.com. Please contact WordPress.com support and they will be able to downgrade your package. See our guide on the difference between self hosted WordPress.org vs free WordPress.com blog.
Just a quick question: Is it a mandatory thing to publish your income reports? I think I would find that a bit too transparent. Do you do it to teach others, or is there another reason? Thanks in advance for your reply!
Wow, that’s a great post. I was wondering how all that applies to someone like me that is a creative. My ideal readers are not fellow artists that I could teach something, but people that love their interior and want to brighten it with some colourful and inspiring art. Thank you so much for you response and I will definitely come back and read your blog more often.
The answer is yes. However, I would caution against it. The reason is, when you use a free service, you don’t have as much control over your blog—the free service does. This can be risky, especially if you will rely on your blog for income. A self-hosted WordPress blog is my recommendation and can be started very inexpensively. See my step-by-step tutorial here.
There’s loads of up-sell opportunities from offering training courses and it can easily be scaled if it is mainly self-teaching materials. Not only this, but you can start gathering email addresses from your trainees and start marketing new courses to them.
Facebook – Depending on your niche you can expect to pay about $1 per click to your blog, but there are many variables that can influence how much you will pay. Depending on the nature of your business this can provide some excellent ROI in terms of initial sales, but the main focus of this ad campaign is to get people to your blog. Wow them with your content and get them to opt-in to your email list for more updates.
Narrow down the topics by reflecting on profitability and other goals. In order to make money, you’ll need to find a niche that other people haven’t filled already, but is still popular enough to attract a significant number of visitors. Also consider other factors, such as money you’d have to spend if your blog focused on reviewing products that you in turn would have to buy.
As I write this, I am getting ready to fly to New York to be interviewed on ABC Nightline which gets like 1.5 million viewers (freaking out a little bit). I also have two other TV interviews confirmed so far in just January. But in 2017, I made my first appearance on WGN News in Chicago and it was so much fun. I also learned (the hard way) that you should always wear makeup on TV simply to reduce the glare on your face from all the lights. Here’s my first time on TV for Millennial Money with my shiny forehead. It was a ton of fun though.
I’m about to build another theme site/shop and was going to use WP, but based on past experiences, I am going to use Joomla because I know the capabilities and flexibility will make managing a site like this (which will have a blog in it), go much smoother, and then there’s security.

Sort and sweet: how do I know if I can monetize what I know? I’m a widower…married again with five kids…and the death of my first wife taught me more than I ever wanted to know. Can this turn into money? (I fear your answer…or lack of one.). Peace off.
Jon, thanks for this awesome post. My question is, what do you think of blogs who ask for donations or claim to sustain themselves by them? (Also books and products). But what do you think about the donation itself and if you´re pro-donation, when is a good time to start asking for it in a blog? Thanks a lot for your time. Hope some day I can meet you Im from and live in Mexico
Though most of my income is generated by helping others 1) get found online and then 2) engage through video, I do use my blog to attract people to me so they can see the services and products I offer.
Edge on the side of caution. Although putting a link on your site to another site for money is not illegal, it is against Google’s guidelines, as the person wanting the link is trying to manipulate the SERPs for their own gain.
You can easily create a web directory in WordPress following our tutorial. There are also plenty of directory plugins for WordPress you can choose from, many of which allow you to accept payments with submissions.
Hi! This was hands down one of the most helpful posts I’ve ever read about how to make blogging a realistic career path. I love how honest and open you were in both suggesting the good but reminding me of the bad choices out there, some of which I know I would/have made. I found your blog after hanging my head from another post on yet another site saying to forget about blogging as your source of income. Completely ignoring that advice and seeking out some that matched my determination, I found yours and so glad I did! Thank you again for this awesome post – it’s officially made it into my favorites bar to come back to.
A paid event calendar is a good monetization method for local or industry-specific websites. You might choose to advertise events in your local city, conferences in a certain industry, or even webinars or live streaming events.
When an up-and-coming band auditions to be an opening act, do you think the more famous band cares where they have played? Not really. All they care about is the strength of the audition. If the up-and-coming band is good, they get the gig. If they suck, it doesn’t matter where they played or how good everyone else says they are, they get a polite no.
If you want to charge high prices, you absolutely can, but you must make big promises. Similarly, if you want to charge low prices, you absolutely can, but you must make small promises. In either case though, the value of the promise should be at least 10X the price.
Connections definitely matter, but I don’t think meeting the right people is a matter of luck. When I was a beginner, I made a list of all the people I wanted to know, and I mapped out a strategy for building a relationship with each of them. It’s no coincidence that, years later, all of them are friends. I made sure of it.
I knew nothing about Blogging until I met you. Things are happening for my coaching business because of what I learned from you. Headlines — subtitles – formatting — passion and a big mission. My writing has completely improved.
I have just removed my ads from my blog. It was looking too spammy. Now the focus is on my calls to action. I am finding that affiliate sales and content marketing are working for me. My long term goal is a membership site.
Always blown away by your posts and funnel, but I can’t help but think that there is an easier way. Basically, take everything you reccomend, then only do what is absolutely nessicary for that tactic to work.
A platform is a software or service you are using to run your blog. In your case, you are already using self-hosted WordPress.org blog. If you want to get more traffic to your blog, then a good place to start would be our WordPress SEO Guide for beginners.
I am a JAGAHB fan and I wanted to express how much I enjoy reading and following your blog. Your blog is so inspirational to us new bloggers. I wish I had found you back in 2013 when you started, but better late than never. 🙂 Your income reports are what drew me to your site and I’ve been impressed every since. I’d never come across or even seen any blog that offered their income information. Most just leave us to guess and wonder if it’s really possible to progress financially. This was a FANTASTIC way to build trust with your future audiences. God Bless, Angela
If you were to start a travel blog today and work really hard at it (around 3 – 5 focused hours / day), then there’s no reason that you couldn’t start earning around $500 / month from it after 6 months. For travellers, that’s a pretty good chunk of change!
What a great article sir, the information is well organized and very comprehensive. I can imagine the effort you put into this and especially appreciate you sharing it. Anyone starting a blog should make this their go to place to start.
It’s so refreshing to see someone write about the times that they were making only $60 per month, since most links I find are about how to make thousands. That seems pretty out of reach when you’re just starting out.
To all the bloggers out there…STOP sucking up to the very small, elite and narcissistic group of self-proclaimed influencers out there. If you all stop treating them like they’re special, they will not longer by special and therefore some of us who aren’t in there secret society will be seen as knowing what we’re talking about too! This isn’t High School, grow up and read someone else’s blog already!

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this one. I was blown away that you don’t have ads on your site. I have ads on my site and I’m reading along thinking your advice is to forget the ads and sell products. As a food blogger, my mind goes to e-cookbooks, actual hold-in-your-hand cookbooks, books on how to start a food blog and how to do food photography. But according to this post, those I should sell later…the cheaper products. I can’t think of what “services” I could offer, other than offering to come over and cook for them (not happening) and I’m not quite an expert at offering services of personally coaching someone’s food blog. Maybe I’m just too green for that 🙂 Am I missing the point?
Advertising is easy to start making it a popular income stream for many bloggers. However, it’s not nearly as lucrative as it once was and it requires a lot of traffic to be truly profitable. Therefore, it’s not a top recommendation of mine.
It will also give you the funds you need to build a team around you. You can hire an assistant, a tech person, a billing person. The faster you get rid of stuff you suck at doing, the faster you will grow.
You include your affiliate link on your site. You can do this directly in the content or through banner ads. If a reader clicks on your unique link and buys the product you have recommended, you earn a percentage of what she purchased.
One area I never really got into with my survivalist blog and wanted to was Everyday Carry. Most people will have never heard of this concept but it really is an interesting sub-niche with in this niche. Everyday Carry is basically any items you can’t leave the house with.
While I started out making money from my blogs through advertising and affiliate promotions today my #1 source of income is through selling eBooks and courses on my blogs. These ‘virtual products’ take work to create but have been lucrative for me and many other bloggers.

Matt and I started the Millennial Money Minutes podcast in December 2016, so when I wrote my goals for 2017, we had really just gotten started. But recording 100 episodes felt like a massive goal! But through a consistent recording schedule and the fact that we didn’t have to cancel any recording sessions for the first half of the year, we were able to absolutely crush the goal and record 232 podcast episodes in 2017. That’s an insane amount of talking. Not only that, we were voted one of the top 10 business podcasts on Podbean (coming in at #4!) and have made many other podcast “best of” lists. If you are interested in starting a podcast, definitely check out Podbean – I’ve been super happy with them. If you want to binge listen or search all the episodes click here. But of the 232 episodes we recorded in 2017, here are my top 3 favorite episodes of the year:
Above we mentioned the difference between CPC and CPM ads, where you are paid per click or per thousand views. While you could use one of those models for selling banner ads, most bloggers charge a flat rate instead. Charging a flat rate is easier than keeping track of views or clicks.
For instance, we have a guest blogging course that retails for $497. In exchange, we promise to help students get featured on a big blog or magazine like The Huffington Post or Forbes. I think it’s fair to say that exposure is worth $5,000 to the right person. So, the product sells easily and well.
Sponsored Content: Most blogs start this way. A company basically contacts you via email (or you reach out to them) and ask you to write a review about their product or brand. They pay for this review and the link to their site (between $200 – $750 USD / article).
If you are using a free hosting service, excessive crosslinking may be punished. Only link to other blog posts occasionally, when they are relevant to your audience. More general links should be shared with your fans through social media instead of your blog.
So counter-intuitive, I thought that I was going to monetize my blog with ads as well. Literally changed the direction of my blog for the better. Thank you so much for saving me the time. Going to read this again and again in the future and will share it now.
When anyone asks me about starting a professional money making blog I always recommend them to use self hosted WordPress as it’s the best platform for bloggers and I suggest you use BlueHost to host your new blog.
C. The process works as a filter rather than a funnel. You expose your work to thousands, you hope to add value to those thousands for no cost to yourself but of those thousands there will be a few hundred who need your service and they pay for those things in proportion to the cost to you in terms of time or resources.
If you don’t want the headaches of dealing with shipping goods and storing them then creating digital goods can be a great way to make money from selling products and taking advantage of scaling your business. Anything from productivity software, to knitting patterns, to recipes or even training courses can be delivered electronically.
As I have been inspired by you I’ve created a list with my favourite bloggers and I included you and your blog in it. I hope you don’t mind. The link is here http://passiveincomewise.com/favourite-bloggers/
#21 – Smart Passive Income – $166,123 in April of 2016 – Pat Flynn is pretty much the king on online income reports and has some of the most impressive blogging income numbers you’ll find on the web. He lists in detail his income and expenses. The vast majority of that income is from his affiliate relationships. He also earns from niche sites, book sales, and other smaller sources.
I agree about foregoing ads and instead selling your own products in those ad spaces. This might however not be applicable to bloggers who are still new and running the ropes, and to blogs that are still in their growth phase.
Good tips you gave out here! I am really looking forward to start my first blog about coding with WordPress. I really hope that I will be making (a lot) of money from blogging. I will remember your tips and give my best to become the next big blog!
Travel is good for the soul, but depending on your travel style, it’s not always good for your body. Moving around Mexico, eating cheesy deep-fried snacks and drinking beer can quickly do a number on your waistline. But ther…
Whether you’re looking to supplement your income with a little extra to pay for a few nice treats or create a blog that will support your lifestyle then you can pretty much make as much money as you like from blogging if you are prepared to put in the hard work.

wow!! i am really overwhelmed with this article, i just got an affiliate ad and decided to check it, and i browsed through and found out that i can add my code to my website blog, of which i had none, so i googled on how to set up a blog to do the business and also make money to support myself and family and i got this web. it blew my mind and as i am starting i am sure to use the ideas u have given and explore. and i pray to be successful in it in Jesus Name. Special Thanks to Jessica Knapp and God Bless YOU.
I did not make any money from my first blogs for almost 18 months (I didn’t even know you could so did not try) and when I did start to try to make money from them the first income was just a few dollars a week – but gradually in time my income grew from a part time income to a full time income and then beyond.
Now, I had a question. I am just 14 years old and I am entering the blog-o-sphere as an intermediate. Now, you may check my blog “theartofvk(dot)com.” I write how to articles mostly and also try to do videos as I am not a native English speaker it get’s difficult for me. When I read post on BBT I find it really interesting but How To articles… umm.. are they nice enough? How To article probably don’t keep people engaging do they? I am recently also trying guest post and on my 5 attempt my article was accepted at Hongkiat.

A common way that many bloggers make money is through offering services to their readers. These might be anything from coaching and consulting, to writing or copywriting, to design, training or other freelance services.
If you’re blogging in another language, I would recommend just focus on posting amazing content and then asking influencers to share it for you. You have much less competition, so it should be fairly effective.
An amazing post! Thank you so much! Many valuable tips, especially the one with the reversed pricing, which I would have never thought of myself. Also a great way of writing that is easy to understand for everyone.
Jon, this is a great article. Thank you. As usual, you are full of useful information. I am new to blogging (just launched in March) and I initially started with the small e-mail list from my business website, which does not have a blog. I started a completely new website after realizing I was on the wrong platform altogether to grow an audience. I learned this thanks to the information you and other professional bloggers provide. You recommend affiliate marketing to monetize a small new blog, which are my exact thoughts for my blog. Do you have an affiliate program? If so I would love to promote your info on my site. Thanks again!
These tips are worth WAY more than gold… Way too awesome man. I’m printing this and keeping it as a part of my study notes for blogging. I can’t seem to find a post that I don’t want to read again and again. I admit though, I’m one of those bloggers who started off writing an ebook that didn’t make a dime. I’ve got a lot to learn!
I have recently learned the value of outsourcing work to specialists. I used to endure sleepless nights trying to keep up with all the work necessary for building a blog. The right specialists are dramatically cheaper at tasks than I could ever hope to be as measured by the cost of my time and the amount of distractions that I created for myself.
Hey Johnny, Number 8 is amazing are you kidding! Keep up the great work bud. You are one of the bloggers that inspire me. Its amazing you have made such a significant impact in your blogging income in just one year!
Update frequently. None of the techniques for Monetizing Your Blog will matter if you let your blog stagnate. Try to post at least once a week, on a subject you haven’t covered before that fits your blog’s main topic.
Once you’ve really understood the audience, it’s a case of demonstrating the potential value the product (in excess of the cost) will bring to the audience in the form of a solved problem. If it’s clear that your product will deliver more value to the customer than they pay for it, then it’s a no brainer for the customer.

Lets say, for example, that you refurbish and resell used smartphones out of your home. You could use a blog to attract visitors to your website where you list your current phones for sale. Your blog might cover topics about DIY refurbishing. On one level, it seems counterintuitive because you want people to buy your phones, but it also helps you build a brand and gain recognition. Social media guru Jay Baer explains the concept on Copyblogger:
Include keywords in important places. Include them in your blog post title, the large “headers” introducing a new section, the first few sentences of your post, and in links. Change your settings so each blog post’s URL includes the title of the post, not the date it was posted. Try to make these as descriptive as possible to raise your ranking in search results and attract the right audience.

5. Nurph. Speaking of blowing up the home page, here’s another tool to keep your tweets in check. Nurph lets you create a real-time chat on a topic of your choosing and then share it with your followers. This is perfect when 140 characters just won’t cut it, or when you’re having a heated debate about which flavor of PopTarts is the best. (It’s cherry, by the way).
The goal here is to publish content that your target audience finds interesting. Clicks, shares, and comments are all good indicators of engaging content. While it can be tempting to sell your audience on the benefits of your product or service, “salesy” content doesn’t generally perform well on LinkedIn.
Central to this is their light-hearted tone of voice that helps to ‘humanize’ what is a very large organization. Combining their jovial style with trending hashtags has also done wonders for their engagement levels and has helped them reach over 600,000 Twitter followers – roughly 3x as many as one of their biggests fast-food rivals, BurgerKing.
Everyone should claim their custom URL to ensure it includes their name (e.g., http://linkedin.com/in/davideerickson). This is especially important for people who have a lot of contact with potential clients — especially for those who [are in] professional services and the B2B sector — because when meeting with someone they have not yet met, many people will search Google for the name of the person with whom they’re meeting in order to learn more about them. Claiming your custom URL makes it more likely your LinkedIn profile will rank in the top of those search results. — David Erickson, vice president of online marketing, Karwoski & Courage
Reusing content assets that have yielded good results is a powerful way to expand your content library and to promote the same content across different media channels and in different content formats. After all, what one person would enjoy as a stunning infographic, another would prefer as an expert advice e-book.
9. Bit.ly. More than just a URL shortener, Bit.ly lets users send links to multiple accounts and customize shortened domains to highlight their brands. You can also plug your Bit.ly API into many of the other best Twitter applications to track and graph stats on your links.
Also create a clear and compelling pitch in your company description. This is where you will grab attention of our targeted audience. First 2 lines of decsription should be clear and concise to explain your business because you have less time to capture user mind. Also joining some business related groups can help you to reach out your targeted audience. One more important thing to do in Linkedin is posting great content related to your business and share it with your Linkedin connection. This is amazing way to build trust among your connections.

Content marketing attracts prospects and transforms prospects into customers by creating and sharing valuable free content. Content marketing helps companies create sustainable brand loyalty, provides valuable information to consumers, and creates a willingness to purchase products from the company in the future. This relatively new form of marketing does not involve direct sales. Instead, it builds trust and rapport with the audience.[2]
Our training: We offer live dials training calls weekly. We actually call our own leads and prospect like were a distributor looking for new reps. We usually have hundreds of people on our conference call,  they are muted and are able to listen as we discuss the various options with the prospect. Every one of these calls are slightly different and after every time there is a call made we do a analysis of the response and break down the elements of the call. This is what training is about!  Imagine listening to this live this is not theory but it’s real training. The best of all, these calls are absolutely free to our customers and our future customers.

The legal distinction between MLMs and traditional pyramid schemes has been characterized by many authorities as a legal fiction. Jurisdictions that retain a legal distinction between MLM pyramid businesses versus illegal pyramid schemes retain said distinction on two key distinguishing features: 1) that MLMs always encompass the sale of actual products/services, while traditional illegal pyramid schemes ordinarily do not (though sometimes they do), and 2) that climbing an MLM pyramid is overwhelmingly statistically improbable (especially to its highest participant levels) but not theoretically impossible, whereas climbing a traditional illegal pyramid scheme is both statistically and theoretically impossible.[citation needed]

It’s safe to say that most of us have a soft spot for animals. The ASPCA could’ve chosen to count on that probability and simply talk about animal cruelty—and many people would have taken action based on that alone—but the power of this tweet lies in the image, in showing the reality of animal cruelty.
Surely you believe that your product or service is of value to your customers. So should you sit back and hope that people will stumble upon your business by chance? Of course not! You want to place yourself in front as many potential customers as possible.
I read in the forums that Linkedin can not be of much benefit to build a business but again posts like this made me change my mind. I am also wondering if this ( http://hcl.link/Linkedin ) will add any info to the article posted here.

Some blogs are focused on getting paid to provide links to news articles, company stores, or other third party websites. The most financially successful of these range from the Drudge, a blog composed almost entirely of conservative-leaning news links, to Smashing Magazine, a site that provides advice and product reviews to help software developers.[5][6]
You’ve seen a sales funnel, right? A company entices you with a freebie, then they offer you something cheap but irresistible, and then they gradually sweet talk you into buying more and more expensive stuff. It’s a tried and true marketing tactic, and you should absolutely build a sales funnel for your blog.
Last year was an absolutely insane one for me and the Millennial Money blog. It has made more money and opened more doors than I could have ever imagined. It has literally changed my life. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2018. ??

If you have an engaged audience that trusts you, and you’re trying to figure out how to make money blogging, selling ads is never a smart move. And that includes all the variations like Google AdSense, sponsorships, and advertising networks. None of it will make nearly as much money as promoting your own products or earning commissions from promoting someone else’s.
Thanks, This is very nice article. I like it so much. I have created a newly news portal with wordpress and install Hueman theme for free. But after installation no pic showing in my pages. Can you give me a good suggestion for me?
Jaime, great article that you have posted on how to make money with blogging. Lots of informative concepts which a lot of other blogs would have over complicated but you have made it so simple that I find it so easy to read and take notes. I like it how you have broken it down to steps to follow which is great for the first time blogger just getting started in what appears to be an Internet jungle.

Alrighty. Just started a new blog this week and this post is SO valuable. My first goal is growing my list to 1,000, but you’ve got me thinking about viable products and a webinar. Thanks for sharing your expertise and experience!
Ibotta – This is another free cell phone app. You use it after you go grocery shopping and use your receipt. It’s basically a rebate app, so you can earn anywhere from 50 cents to $5 off everything you buy.
The “best idea” for you and the “best idea” for me are two completely different things. I would go for a product that you feel comfortable promoting and one that you can promote effectively. For example, I promote hosting packages because I genuinely know a lot about hosting and web development, so it fits in nicely with my skill sets.
My question is if I should launch with already several posts on my blog, or just put up one and then add new posts every other day? I plan to share/launch it to friends and family with a special pregnancy announcement, so I’m hoping it’ll get a few hits/views right away.
Allen… you can embed links within your blog articles which lead to further information about the topic you are writing about.. If you have an affiliate program, a book on Amazon or whatever you can then earn while still enjoying your passion of writing.

This certainly isn’t a direct form of making money blogging, but it has worked for many well-known bloggers, and it can work for you, too. If you’re looking for a direct revenue stream, popular blogs have sold for 4-7 figures (sometimes more) by selling their branding and content.
If you’re not interested in selling ads or sponsored posts, there are plenty of other ways you can earn money online from your blog. A popular method is by having your audience pay to access certain content or areas of your site. Here are a couple of ways to do that.
If you have not  yet created a blog but want to, check this easy step by step guide on how to create a blog in just minutes.  You too can make money blogging.  This however is not a get rich quick scheme or anything of the like.  It is very difficult to make money blogging and it takes so much time, experience and effort to accomplish this.  I know because in the short time I have been blogging, I have barely made any money at all from it and I’ve poured my heart and soul into Cash Flow Diaries.  I’m still trying to learn from others how to properly make money blogging and in the mean time, I will continue logging my journey to financial freedom and trying to help others get there.

Hey Dena! Just hit publish!! I was scared like you too when I first started this blog. But the more you publish and write, the easier it gets and the more comfortable you will be finding your voice. What are your goals for starting a blog? Mine was to share my journey, help others and monetize. You could read this post too – it’s how I worked full time but was a part time blogger and outlines my schedule (warning – it was a little crazy!)
Market your blog first. These techniques for making money are not useful for a blog that doesn’t yet have an audience. Read about Marketing and Advertising first, even if you don’t plan on including ads. At minimum, you should be posting links to your blog on social media website to attract readership.
This is fascinating. I´ve been working in illustration for a couple decades now but i always lacked promotion skills over the web i guess. I thought that blogs were dead and gone and facebook and twitter was all that mattered nowadays but now i can see i was wrong to ditch my own personal blog for which i haven´t posted a single thing for five years or so…but even without posting i noticed today that i have around 25.000 visitors and people keep coming back… i definetely need to start paying atention to my blogs…
This is the first time I read the honest and so detail report on the blogging income. Love it since its so inspirational. Thank you for being so transparent with what you are doing. Just started my blog for my new year goal. You are one of my mentor in blogging business. Thank you again
This is complete motivation for me to keep on blogging and not giving up. Thanks for taking the time to put this list together. I know it takes some time searching Google for these folks updated income reports.
Keeping your day job as you grow your blog will let your grow your blog with less pressure to succeed. If you quit your job and wanted to make a living off your blog.. it would get very stressful, and your blog would suffer in the end.
In other words, Jon is an incredible writer, communicator, and hard worker–no question. But you’re in the business of helping other people make money. You’re not, by contrast, a travel blogger. You’re not, by contrast, helping to teach people how to buy their first pet. You’re not, by contrast, an entertainment blogger writing about Rihanna and “True Detective.”
The topic ” Make money from home ” is very much interesting and people get very much excited when they get to know about it. But people should understand, this isn’t that much easy as they are thinking.
Again great post man, another little top for people who’re thinking of paid advertising. Always make sure your ad is between posts or in article itself. Do not ever buy top or side ads, people are blind to them. Nobody clicks them.
So as we can see from this chart SEMRush thinks that it would cost Everydaycarry.com over $30k per month to get the traffic they are getting for “free” from Google’s organic results. By clicking on the different options we can then see which keywords have the highest search volumes.
Rather, I’d like to life a simple but comfortable life, say, of 5 figures per year. Having extra to give away on occasion would be fine. But my main goal is to teach, and by teaching to help people who have enough desire to be helped that they would actually make an effort to learn.
I commented on your other page too. Sorry! How and what do you mean to do the affiliate links. I took the Blogelina class and she mentioned them too. I do the Google Ads but would love to start making more money wise. Would you comment more on how to do the affiliate part? Thanks!
Be honest and content rich when linking to affiliates. Write your own content and recommend products that you have actually used and enjoyed. Give honest reviews, faults included, as though you were recommending the product to a friend. If you truly don’t like a product, don’t mention it or link to it.
I need some help, I see that you said that building a site that is based on a niche is much more profitable. I have one question, how about a site that isn’t based on a niche. I often blog about many things. Sometimes, they’re not related to each other at all. In terms of SEO, will it have any massive negative impact? Thanks in advance.
I have always told bloggers to never put ads on your blog when you start it for a few months. Focus on the design tweaking, user experience and getting a lot of quality content on there. Then slowly experiement with ways to earn money. Try affiliate marketing for a month or two, apply for 1 ad network and if approved try that for a month. If the results don’t look promising, don’t waste months of testing 1 revenue method out, experiemtn with more.
1) Your niche selection is extremely important. You probably won’t be able to make money helping people watch better quality TV. But you could help them lose weight or be more productive and make a bunch of money in the process. Making money is not limited to helping other people make money.

You can manage a WordPress blog from mobile browser. However, this will be difficult as many features on your screen would appear different or may not be visible. Plugins will be unable to adjust their settings page to your device size. In short, it is not practical in the long run.
Learning to do all that is what is hard, but once you get all that clicking together then a blogging income will come pretty fast. What I will say is you have to like blogging, you have to like all the things that go with blogging for you to succeed long term.
This post is surely destined for the list post Hall of Fame. Some awesome tips to help stir up the pot of BS excuses most people hide behind and light a fire to finally get people off their asses and into gear. So here’s an unpaid endorsement.
Hey Johnny, Number 8 is amazing are you kidding! Keep up the great work bud. You are one of the bloggers that inspire me. Its amazing you have made such a significant impact in your blogging income in just one year!
Great post, thank you! I found this to be very useful. I have just got into the Pay Per Click method and it is a great way of building a passive income. Due to my niche, I have found it difficult to source good affiliate networks, but just today I have revisited the accounts I set up on Link Share and CJ, to my surprise they offer a good range of affiliate programs, many of which cater to my niche blog topic 🙂
But because I’m not launching my blog or writing any blog posts until I hit 10,000 subscribers, I can’t point them to a blog I own that contains some of my writing samples, so that whoever I’m contacting can read and get an idea of my writing style.

Any who I just wanted to say your income report is expiring and I only hope by 6 months to have made something. As it stands now with my 200 pageviews I have earned about a $1.00, but I am proud of that dollar.
I spent about 2 months just reading blogs, learning things I felt I needed before I started my blog, but I’m a little compulsive haha, I could of started sooner but I wanted to be ready.  For you, I say do some basic learning of blogging and WordPress then just get to work.
I started my first ever blog by writing on a consistent schedule about myself, my hobbies and interests. People found me via Google, Facebook, social media and my readership gradually grew over time to where it is today.
