Lesson: Non-profit organizations can increase their celebrity endorsers’ activity with a campaign by showing them just how impactful their Twitter involvement is. Sharing analytics with celebrities involved in the campaign can encourage them to share the campaign with their followers more often.

I love the fact that LinkedIn has rolled out a number of applications to help you promote your business or your personal work better.  It doesn’t matter what industry you are in, there is an application for everyone that can help you get your message across better, and improve the overall experience of your LinkedIn profile.  Go to the applications section on your profile to see which ones you could start using today, and make the most out of the new ones that come out in the future.
Your Company and Showcase Pages have robust analytics built in. You can see when people are engaging, your audience demographics, and which content performs best. Use these insights to help you decide what type of content to publish and which topics you cover.
Have you ever heard your clients say: “Thanks for posting that latest picture of your kid eating two pancakes at once with the face covered in strawberry jam on LinkedIn. It was that exact picture that made me realize that your services are a perfect fit for my business”?
As non-employees, participants are not protected by legal rights of employment law provisions. Instead, salespeople are typically presented by the MLM company as “independent contractors” or “independent business owners”. However, participants do not possess a business in the traditional legal sense, as the participants do not hold any tangible business assets or intangible business goodwill able to be sold or purchased in a sale or acquisition of a business. These are the property of the MLM company.
Pinterest’s Marketing Partners (PMP) build tools and services to help businesses scale their presence and marketing on Pinterest and create a richer experience for Pinners. Since so much of the content on Pinterest comes from brands, businesses and publishers, PMPs play a critical role in helping grow and optimize paid, earned and owned content across Pinterest.
“Pinterest has proven to be a powerful platform for brands to reach new and existing customers,” per Aaron Goldman, Chief Marketing Officer at 4C. “The combination of focused consumer intent, high-impact visuals, and built-in network effects of Pinterest has led to unparalleled performance. The results 4C clients have seen from Pinterest ads speak for themselves and Pinterest’s commitment to its Marketing Partners program bodes well for future success.”
As part of the LinkedIn small business guide, the network shared an interesting stat that relates to how often you should be sharing to LinkedIn. Share 20 times per month to reach 60 percent of your audience.
Instagram has also launched their Instagram Business profiles and paid advertising. The Business profile adds a phone number to your bio and gives access to extensive analytics data that wouldn’t be otherwise available unless you’re using a social media tool. GIFs are shareable, relatable, and delightful — and MLB really nailed it by creating a separate Twitter handle to embrace them. (Want to learn how to create your own animated GIFs in Photoshop? Read this blog post for a tutorial.)
MLM salespeople are, therefore, expected to sell products directly to end-user retail consumers by means of relationship referrals and word of mouth marketing, but most importantly they are incentivized to recruit others to join the company as fellow salespeople so that these can become their down line distributors.[3][6][7] According to a report that studied the business models of 350 MLMs, published on the Federal Trade Commission’s website, at least 99% of people who join MLM companies lose money.[8][9] Nonetheless, MLMs function because downline participants are encouraged to hold onto the belief that they can achieve large returns, while the statistical improbability of this is de-emphasised.
“We want to make eBay relevant to consumers at the moment they’re inspired to shop, and Pinterest enables us to put the right content in front of the right people,” said Jody Ford, vice president of global growth for eBay. “By working with one of Pinterest’s Marketing Developer Partners, eBay can buy Promoted Pins to promote interesting trends and topics with Pinterest users, making them instantly shoppable. And we’re encouraged by early results, which have shown a significant increase in traffic from Pinterest to eBay.”
As one of the first, and largest, publications focused on sharing strategies for better social media marketing, Social Media Examiner is a trail-blazer – and their Twitter account mirrors their commitment to current, quality content.
In the MLM business model, the commission derived from the MLM’s pyramid-shaped structure (i.e. from the sales of one’s recruits) is the most profitable revenue stream. This revenue stream, however, is also the least statistically probable source of remuneration to a salesperson. Conversely, the revenue stream from direct-sales of ones own personal sales is the least profitable. This revenue stream, however, is also statistically the most likely source of remuneration to salespeople. For the overwhelming majority of participants, however, neither one of these two revenue streams will be profitable after operating expenses are deducted.
Multi-level marketing (MLM) also called pyramid selling,[1][2] network marketing,[2][3] and referral marketing,[4] is a marketing strategy for the sale of products or services where the revenue of the MLM company is derived from a non-salaried workforce (also called participants, and variously known as “salespeople”, “distributors”, “consultants”, “promoters”, “independent business owners”, etc.) selling the company’s products/services, while the earnings of the participants are derived from a pyramid-shaped commission system.
One actionable Linkedin strategy most marketers overlooked is finding email addresses of their target linkers, influencers and social sharers. There are many tools to collect email addresses, but one that is pretty handy and is getting popular is Email Hunter. By simply installing it into your Chrome browser, going through each Linked profile and clicking on the red button, you can get the email address straight from the page. This is a simple trick but can actually help you semi-automate your manual outreach and content promotion process.
Several unaffiliated trade, professional and industry organizations that we belong to have Linkedin groups.  One example is the American Marketing Association.  Large organizations like the American Marketing Association have chapters in every city and private Linkedin groups established for local chapters.  Members of the American Marketing Association are encouraged to connect to one another and share relevant posts in these local Linkedin groups. Meetup.com is another site where people meet in local organizations that have formed Linkedin groups.
“We set up a two-way communication channel between us and them, where we were able to show them through our analytics the kind of impact they were having on Twitter and among their followers on every retweet or mention about the campaign. In effect, rather than have them formally ‘endorse’ the campaign, we helped them ‘participate’ actively. Our analytics helped them understand their own influence and this acted as an encouragement for them be active campaigners. We thus created an environment for them to engage with us and the ‘Awaaz Do’ cause directly, by making real-time info about their impact available to them.”
Hello Network Marketer, Tired of old, worn out, over-priced network marketing leads that cost you hard-earned money… but leave you without new distributors? Tired of friends and family avoiding your calls? If you’re like most distributors I know, time and money are valuable to you. You can’t waste it on cheap, worn out recycled leads. Nor do you want to chase your friends and family. Otherwise, you’ll become a charter member of the NFL Club… No Friends Left!
During the campaign, over 500,000 characters were ‘donated’ by Twitter Users, helping to spread the #FairTweets message around the world. By getting their fans to drive the campaign, Ben and Jerry’s were able to spread the message far beyond their 100,00 followers.

It certainly paves the way for more advertising, which has been an ongoing project at the company trying to compete with Google, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Twitter remains one of the most popular social media platforms and it’s recognized by brands as a way to facilitate customer and user engagement. But, with over 350,000 tweets posted per minute, achieving brand visibility is a challenge.
“We’re going to continue to add more third-party measurement providers—the goal is we want this to be verified by the broader ecosystem [and built] the way that video buyers want to buy,” Bidgoli said.

The truth is you are better to put out 5 – 10 smaller products around one big product that way if your goal is to make $5,000 a month, it will be easier to make $500 to $1,000 per product then it would be to make the full $5,000 from one product.
For example over the past couple of years, husband and wife team, Bjork and Lindsay at PinchofYum.com, a food and recipe blog, have built up a huge following and some months they have made nearly $25k.
You brought up some really good points in your posting. I’ve been a blogger for @ 12 hours now and I’m thankful to get glimpse of the full scope of the blogging world. Your posts informed me on the importance of “guest posting”. I have not even heard of that. Thank you and I’ll be out on other blogs posting.
One of the most frustrating things for me since I began blogging was getting more engagement on my blog posts. When I first started I went from nothing to around 200,000 on Alexa in about 3 to 6 months. After that, I had a long hiatus of no content and flew back up past 10,000,000.
Writing a post contains 2000 – 3000 words may be a bit difficult to me. But i must realize that nothing can be achieved without hard working. If we write a long valuable content like this, there is a great chance for bookmarking the page. So it is a great innovative strategy.
Wow! Trying to learn all the ins and outs and do content, I never knew it was so much work! Been trying to keep up on learning the affiliates and the networks and Google Adsense and social media. Just keep pushing forward. Love to here your earning congrats to you! So awesome! Gives me hope for all my sleepless nights of hard work lol
Hi, I’ve been wanting to write for a while. I write for myself, I have lots of notebooks of visions, visions and signs in dreams and really discovered how to know and love myself through creating intuitive art with mandalas. It is my passion. I found my passion in my 40’s and giving workshops now to help others learn about listening to their heart and learning about themselves and blocages through forms and colors. I could sell digitals of my creations, a coloring book etc….. I am an intuitive and know nothing about computers and when I try to learn about the technical stuff…I get stuck!!! I’m pretty good at researching, writing, emails but technical stuff get me stuck!! I’ve always dreamed of being my own boss and travel, I want a job where I can work and earn an income from wherever I am in the world. I need help to get started!! Your story inspires me. Thank you so much!
Very informative article. If someone can implement any of these methods or all these methods with passion, perseverance & patience , making real money online will be as easy as ABC. Weldone to the author.
Truth is, it would be silly to quit your day job when you are building a blogging income. Your reason for trying to make money with your blog is to have extra money.. Right?  So why leave your job that is giving you and income?
This guide to making a money making blog is completely free. I don’t want anything for it – just for you to take action and do it, so many of my friends would love to do it but give up too soon, often when their big breakthrough might only be a few weeks away.
If people immediately think you’re full of shit upon hearing your promise, then you’re in trouble. In my opinion, this is what marketing is really about: getting people to trust you when you say you can help them. The better you are at it, the more money you’ll make.
Question for you. What’s your opinion on turning off blog comments? I like engaging with readers and bloggers and having a dialogue with them. But I know some bloggers are turning off their comments. I don’t know about this. Some readers may feel you’re turning your back on them. Others may not care at all.
Reddit – ads appear on the top of the various pages. They are obviously ads so users don’t feel tricked into clicking on them. When people choose to select an ad they usually know it. So there is little chance of upsetting customers this way.
I stumbled upon your blog post through Pinterest and am so glad that I did! You seem like a blogger I would love to read and learn from! As a newbie, it’s so exciting to see other newer bloggers that are still in the earlier (but still very successful) stages of their careers because you seem so down to Earth and real! I can’t wait to hear more from you and to learn more about you and your blog!
Great post Jamie! There’s so many posts about how to make a money blog and your one is by far the best. One thing I want to comment on is initially all people who start a new blog don’t know where to start. They just sign up to different affiliate money making programs thinking that they will become rich quickly. You and me both know that this is not the case. What they don’t know and need to understand is that blogging needs hard work and dedication. To keep on going when after 6 months they are still earning zero. Only after that one can think to be successful online.
There is no point in starting a blog that you want to make money from without a plan. There are thousands, even hundreds of niches out there. Some are broad and huge; some are small and virtually unknown. Some niches are easier to make money in than others.
I put in so many hours into my blog, I probably get paid like .5 cents per hour. LOL, but I dont care because I love blogging. Its a great way to get my creative juices out there and help others with investing.
I started 10 years ago as a big ticket affiliate marketer. I made money quickly and quit the rat race 55 days later. It made sense to me to avoid creating a product (a tortuous path for a newbie) and let a third party take care of product creation and delivery, not to mention customer service.

The idea that you can start a blog today and make a full-time income within a few months is, for most, not realistic. There is simply too much too learn and too much to build (your site, your content library, your social media presence, your trustworthiness, relationships with readers, etc.). If you need money right away, building a blog may not be your best option.
Could you explain how you monetized your blog? I currently use Word Press (the free verison) and I just started blogging. So I have no idea how to do the Adsense thing. Any direcitons would be really helpful! 🙂
So….why would someone accept me as a guest blogger? I have no blog where I’ve written similar content on my own platform, and because we’re not focusing on Twitter, Facebook and Google+, I have no social proof of any kind.
Hello Jon, the lessons are detailed and comprehensive. Frankly speaking, I have never read a blog post that carefully like today and I really benefit a lot from it. However, I still have a question regarding to this post, that is, if I am not an expert in any field, what kind of blog (topic for blog) should I start with and how to get enough traffic to my blog? I agree with you that we should not sell ads but should sell our own products or affiliate products via our blog. However, if I cannot teach others something and my blog doesn’t have enough traffic, how can I sell my products or the affiliate products to my readers? Anyhow, I will still focus on your blog and hope I will learn more valuable knowledge through your blog.
Gawd, I’m tired just looking at that blog total! No idea how I do it. This figure, of course, doesn’t count the posts about writing I create for this blog…so you can add another 8-10 posts a month there. To sum up, I’m a blogging fool these days!
Thank you so much for adding me and for compiling these! I love reading income reports. I can’t wait to look at everyone’s numbers. If I remember next month I’ll link to this from my income report and share with everyone 🙂
To put it most simply – affiliate income is when you link to a product that is for sale on another site (take Amazon for example) and if someone follows your link and ends up buying that product you earn a commission on that sale.
Granted, you won’t make that kind of money when your blog is small, but when you’re just starting to learn how to make money blogging, affiliate marketing is still a good way to start for several reasons:

Marsha Collier has authored 48 marketing and commerce books, is the founder of one of the most successful Twitter chats, and hosts a hugely popular marketing and tech podcast. With such a long list of accomplishments, it’s no wonder that her Twitter feed is always full of great marketing information.
Like many big-name brands, Siemens gets its fair share of negative press. Rather than facing it head on, like The New York Times, it tweets positive and promotional news from its main account and from @Siemens_press and @SiemensMobility; regularly using positive hashtags like #CO2neutral # CleanEnergy #EnergyEfficient.
Success Metrics: On the day of the tweetathon, 1,524 tweets used the #bluekey hashtag, which is a significant increase over the daily average of 50 that occurred during the rest of the campaign. Traffic to the Blue Key website also increased 169% over the previous high point. Furthermore, more than 50% of key purchases for that week were a result of the tweetathon.
“Increasingly, the advertiser demand is moving to this so the market is deciding that this performs and works for them—it’s more scalable,” he said. “It’s a more efficient way for advertisers to spend their money with us.”

As of February 15, 2011, there were more than 35,000 tweets with the #ls11 hashtag, and 9,500 of those tweets were retweeted. IBM calculates that the campaign garnered more than 41 million total impressions on Twitter.
Because of the encouraging of recruits to further recruit their competitors, some people have even gone so far as to say at best modern MLMs are nothing more than legalized pyramid schemes[4][17][18] with one stating “Multi-level marketing companies have become an accepted and legally sanctioned form of pyramid scheme in the United States”[17] while another states “Multi-Level Marketing, a form of Pyramid Scheme, is not necessarily fraudulent.”[18] In October 2010 it was reported that multilevel marketing companies were being investigated by a number of state attorneys general amid allegations that salespeople were primarily paid for recruiting and that more recent recruits cannot earn anything near what early entrants do.[55] Industry critic Robert L. FitzPatrick has called multi-level marketing “the Main Street bubble” that will eventually burst.[56]
To me, LinkedIn is all about connecting to professionals in my network / areas of expertise. There are two reasons to why I use LinkedIn: a) to connect to people who disrupt the business scene in their countries, and b) to create a pool of professionals where we can always exchange ideas, brainstorm and be up to date with our professional paths.
Agency Golin Harris recently launched a geo-targeted Promoted Account for its client, McDonald’s Canada, which was the first brand in Canada to execute such a campaign. Unfortunately there is too much noise on social media today. It has become almost impossible to get attention and sell anything. This is what happens when channels get saturated. It pushes people to try and get more and more creative which only leads to higher costs in terms of time and money for a smaller and smaller reward. The most effective way and the only way that has held true for thousands of years is direct communication with the prospect. The best platform for that is LinkedIn. The only valuable aspect of LinkedIn is the ability to connect to your prospect and start a conversion via chat. The system is simple. Send an invitation to connect and once accepted, introduce yourself to the prospect via chat. Then, try and move the prospect to continue communication via email or phone as soon as possible. Here is how I work and I get results:

Posting directly on LinkedIn is the most powerful tool available on LinkedIn today. If a post begins to gain some momentum, LinkedIn will put a spotlight behind it in one of their categories, and it can get tens of thousands of readers (or more). This is a great way to improve your visibility while reaching readers in a way that would not have been possible on your own website/blog or even posting an article link on LinkedIn. — Lavie Margolin, author, “The LinkedIn Butterfly Effect” (H. Delilah Business & Career Press, 2013)

On March 6, 2012, Dollar Shave Club launched their online video campaign. In the first 48 hours of their video debuting on YouTube they had over 12,000 people signing up for the service. The video cost just $4500 to make and as of November 2015 has had more than 21 million views. The video was considered as one of the best viral marketing campaigns[33] of 2012 and won “Best Out-of-Nowhere Video Campaign” at the 2012 AdAge Viral Video Awards.
Lesson: Paid advertising on Twitter, including Promoted Tweets, Trends and Accounts, can be an option for brands looking to gain new eyes. Brands should test out various hashtags and keywords to target their desired audience. The Twitter team acted as a great resource to help McDonalds Canada test out different keywords and bids to gain the greatest amount of new followers, notes Karin Campbell, senior manager of external communications, McDonalds Restaurants of Canada Limited.
“Given a valuable enough incentive, users will complete several registration steps for entry. The requirement to share a specific tweet and hashtag to an entrants own social network is what drove the success of this promotion, especially given that it wasn’t heavily supported by other media channels. In the future, we’d probably require that users take fewer steps for entry in order to increase the total number of entrants. Including a specific and unique hashtag was essential for tracking purposes.”

The idea was simple, LG would set out a stall in a UK city and the first person to get to their stall won two tickets to a high profile concert. Most of their tweets include cool information or statistics from their studies that are interesting to their target followers. They do a great job of tweeting out an interesting statistic or tidbit, including a relevant image that makes that piece of information stick out in the feed, and then link to the larger study. The tip here is to get the timing right when asking for testimonials and being specific in your recommendation request. The best time is right after you’ve completed the job for your client or working with a colleague. This helps them to give more meaning and depth to their testimonial while it’s still fresh in their memory. And your request for the recommendation must be personalised (never use the ready-to-use template that LinkedIn offers). Outline some questions that will help guide them to write a testimonial that can help future clients to make a decision i.e. what were the results before and after your service/product? What was their experience working with you? How did they find the communication/process/turnaround time?

Being a professional network, LinkedIn cuts through the clutter and confusion, and leads you the purpose of its existence – networking. Over the years, I used LinkedIn for various reasons with varied level of success but the reason I love LinkedIn is its capability to give me leads. The leads generated from LinkedIn have higher conversion rate. It is a powerful market segmentation tool. When I search for specific leads, their search editor gives tons of options. I avoid cold emails and therefore, I engage with selected potential leads on LinkedIn and other platforms before pitching them. It helps to build a rapport and get good work from other professionals.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) states: “Steer clear of multilevel marketing plans that pay commissions for recruiting new distributors. They’re actually illegal pyramid schemes. Why is pyramiding dangerous? Because plans that pay commissions for recruiting new distributors inevitably collapse when no new distributors can be recruited. And when a plan collapses, most people—except perhaps those at the very top of the pyramid—end up empty-handed.”[39]
“Our fans have found thousands of different shapes in their Cheetos, but the ones that felt best for a Pinterest audience leaned into design, art and fashion,” said Margaret Johnson, partner and chief creative officer at Goodby Silverstein & Partners. “Pinterest’s inspiration-based platform allowed us to contextually target our fans and see shapes that were most relevant to them. Users who searched fashion or food related topics were then served contextually relevant shaped Cheetos.”

To help customers have a memorable Valentine’s Day, Kraft turned to Ted Williams, the famous voice discovered on the street, to send personalized videos for their Kraft Valentines Tweets campaign. This campaign was both fun and creative, offering fans a chance to create a personal message for the ones they love, while still taking advantage of a recognized voice. What better way to surprise that special someone than by having your tweet read by the “Golden Voice of Love?” All customers had to do was tweet #voiceoflove to Kraft for a chance to have their love message read by Williams.
Editor’s Note: The post introduces the latest LinkedIn Presents the Future video, which examines what’s next for online video. The previous videos in the series can viewed here. B2B marketers are embracing video. And an increasing number of them are using new video options from LinkedIn, such as Video Ads. Video has always been a powerful medium for marketers — …
Domino’s Pizza in the UK looked to the lunch crowd for their Knock Down the Price of Pizza campaign. For every tweet sent with the hashtag #letsdolunch, Dominos knocked off £0.01 for its most popular pizza. The price eventually went from £15.99 to £7.74 for a large pepperoni pizza. This was a clever, one-off campaign that quickly got fans interacting with the company during the lunch hour.
The features available on the platforms will be familiar to anyone who has used social management platforms, including the ability to publish or schedule Pins to publish later, optimizing to help predict best times of day or days of week to publish and content tagging to help understand how categories are performing. Testing has produced strong results, Kidwell said; Kraft is using Ahalogy and Dove and Hellmann’s are using Percolate and all are producing a higher volume of Pins and engagement.
My best Linkedin marketing strategy is actually using their platform as a place to share content. As someone who uses his blog for the purpose of marketing and driving traffic, I am always looking for places to share content. Linkedin is one of the most targeted places to create and share content on just because everyone on the network is looking for some kind of professional or business connection. Most of my posts did very well on Linkedin and actually drew in a ton of traffic from their platform.
Unlike other forms of online marketing, content marketing relies on anticipating and meeting an existing customer need for information, as opposed to creating demand for a new need. As James O’Brien of Contently wrote on Mashable, “The idea central to content marketing is that a brand must give something valuable to get something valuable in return. Instead of the commercial, be the show. Instead of the banner ad, be the feature story.”[3] Content marketing requires continuous delivery of large amounts of content, preferably within a content marketing strategy.[4]
It’s also important to have an updated and consistent presence for your brand with its own Company profile page. Imagery, colors and content on this page should be consistent with your website and any other social media profiles the business has. The page should be updated regularly, so the brand is active and appears to be a current business. We’ve all had the experience of stumbling upon a company social media profile that’s updated once a month, or worse, hasn’t been updated in months. Creating a LinkedIn presence then not maintaining it will be worse than not having one at all. — Carrie Booher, chief marketing officer, Online Optimism
Another social media heavy-hitter, Chris Brogan has been experimenting with and growing his social presence for years. And all of that experimentation has resulted in a huge following, insightful tweets, and a wealth of information that he shares regularly.
At the time of publishing our report, the above tweet had been retweeted 2,645 times and liked by 5,422. It’s still very much alive on Twitter and it’s now been retweeted 35,369 and liked 128,270 times. The New York Times uses @NYTimesComm to respond to tweets but rarely engages. In this instance, protecting its brand was primary.
MLMs have been made illegal in some jurisdictions as a mere variation of the traditional pyramid scheme, including in mainland China.[15][16] In jurisdictions where MLMs have not been made illegal, many illegal pyramid schemes attempt to present themselves as MLM businesses.[7] Given that the overwhelming majority of MLM participants cannot realistically make a net profit, let alone a significant net profit, but instead overwhelmingly operate at net losses, some sources have defined all MLMs as a type of pyramid scheme, even if they have not been made illegal like traditional pyramid schemes through legislative statutes.[4][17][18]
LinkedIn’s “Publish a post” feature has improved dramatically over the past 12 months. Just like a facebook timeline, your article will appear in your connections’ timelines and can be shared by your connections so that others outside of your direct network can read your post.

The tweetathon took place on Monday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, seven days before World Refugee Day, and it featured a number of social-savvy “Blue Key Champions” tweeting via their personal Twitter accounts for at least an hour each, while supporting tweets originating from the official @UNRefugeeAgency Twitter handle. Roya Hosseini, wife of The Kite Runner author Khaled Hosseini and the Twitter voice of the Khaled Hosseini Foundation (@tkhf) also appeared on the tweetathon as a special guest, which especially increased awareness of the tweetathon and campaign.
For example; one thing that many people don’t know is that if you ask for a connection from someone that doesn’t know who you are and they decide to tell LinkedIn that they don’t know you, it counts negatively towards your profile. If enough of them say that they don’t know you, your LinkedIn will get restricted and depending on the situation, even banned.
In mid 2016, an Indian tea company (TE-A-ME) has delivered 6,000 tea bags[35] to Donald Trump and launched a video content on YouTube[36] and Facebook.[37] The video campaign became an award-winning content marketing case study and received various awards including most creative PR stunt[38] in Southeast Asia after receiving 52000+ video shares, 3.1M video view in first 72-hour and hundreds of publication mentions (including Mashable, Quartz,[39] Indian Express,[40] Buzzfeed[41]) across 80+ countries.

“We want to tell people about us in the most engaging way we can,” said Community Manager Helena Langdon told Audiense in an interview. “It’s our goal to make our pages a place on social media where people want to visit and enjoy seeing in their timelines, then people won’t mind when we try to sell them drinks every now and again.”
My favorite MLB Twitter account, though, is @MLBGIFs. The concept is brilliant in its simplicity: Each tweet features a GIF paired with a funny one-liner. These GIFs capture some of the cool, funny, and weird moments that take place during a baseball game — everything from diving catches to dancing fans to high-fiving players.
“One of the unique differentiations for video on Pinterest was that it’s not only about inspiration, but it also helps people do things,” said Mike Bidgoli, product lead at Pinterest. “Obviously the format moved to autoplay, which made it easier for advertisers to be able to buy and measure the same way that they are with everything else. The overarching point is that we wanted video to have third-party measurement from the get-go.”
Don’t wait for a disaster on Twitter before reacting, use it just for selling your product, or jump in purely for customer service issues. Twitter can bring character to your brand, a personality. Used well, it’ll be your brand’s human voice.

Great article and nice blog I’ve been a plumber for over 7 years and was thinking of starting a plumbing blog withe free help and advice do you think this blog could make money and would it be difficult to set up ?
Affiliate marketing works in conjunction with several other online advertising mechanisms. This is the case because affiliates will often use these platforms for marketing purposes. Some of the mechanisms include search engine optimization (SEO), e-mail marketing, paid search engine marketing (PPC-Pay Per Click), display advertising, and content marketing. At the same time, affiliates can also appropriate less traditional advertising methods. An example would be publishing reviews of services or products.
I’m trying to get going for the minimum cost in the first instance. So, my question; is it possible to have more than one blog (or niche) attached to a single website? I have been advised it will cost around £250 for a basic WordPress site (once you have domain, hosting, theme etc). I have done a lot of work with small businesses as an advisor and specialise in marketing. I’m considering offering online courses and e guides. however, I would also like to blog about my hobbies of walking and motor homing. It’s just where to start!
Thanks Sam. I split it between index funds, AMZN stock, and saving for another property in the next few years (location TBD!). I like being on TV and it’s led to a lot of new opportunities. It’s also helping me get the message out to a much broader group of people who don’t read blogs. After I’m on TV I get emails that are like “Hey I never thought about saving more than 10% of my income!” I’m all about meeting people where they are. Sure, it’s definitely a personality trait – I think you either like it or you don’t. I really dig the energy of being on TV. It’s fun.

It’s a great post, Jon. I always loved your style, you make everything sound so attention-grabbing. Anyway, I think it’s a very helpful post, meaning that some of those points actually (well, who am I fooling here, most of them) were something new for me. Especially about SEO.
Blogging to build credibility can lead to many money-making opportunities. For instance, let us say you start a blog in the finance industry. People start reading your content, and your blog becomes very popular. You are now a recognized figure in the finance industry.
Way to go Kristin, your story is so inspiring. I have not started blogging yet, but have started to research the in’s and out’s of it. I have a very busy life with 2 kiddos and a full time job. I want to start a blog about my hobby, but not sure how great of a writer I am, and much time I need to commit!
You want to make money, right? Of course you do. Everyone wants – and needs -to make money. So you started a blog since you’ve heard it’s an easy way to make cash, but you’re not quite sure how to actually make money doing it. Or maybe you already have a blog and you’re exploring ways to monetize it.
You can manage a WordPress blog from mobile browser. However, this will be difficult as many features on your screen would appear different or may not be visible. Plugins will be unable to adjust their settings page to your device size. In short, it is not practical in the long run.
You are man of kind. I do blogging since 7 years ago. I didn’t earn much like others. The reason behind i didn’t gave readers value. I pushed them to click my advertising. That’s silly. But, now, i understand that readers need something useful for their life. I called it human to human approach. Not human to machine, like the way i did. E Since months ago, i read your blog everyday. Just like a breakfast at Tiffany.

Hey Sumalee! It doesn’t hurt to start early – just make sure you have some great content published first so readers who are coming from social media sites can see what you have to offer and will want to come back and read more 🙂 And if you want to monetize – go for it! It took me some time to build up – mostly because I had no clue what I was doing – so the earlier you can get started, the better!
Plugins come in all varieties, from very simple code modifications to complex software applications. If you have a basic grasp of how WordPress works and some simple PHP knowledge, you can create your own WordPress plugin.
Jon, you just rock! I agree that you should be called “his Royal Awesomeness” :). This is the greatest post I ever read about blogging and monetizing a blog. I know some bloggers who are able to make a living 20-30k per year with their blogs but it took them years to build a following and thousands of posts too…
Also, I think allowing comments on your blog makes you approachable and builds a community. Plus, if you solely build your community on social media networks, what happens when they disappear? You never know, it could happen.
Hey can you help me? I am all new to this and is very interested in becoming a blogger. I mainly want to write about life in Hawai’i. I have been searching and watching videos all day. Im just stuck on where to start? and how to get things going? i really would like your help please

Man 100k per month from just a single blog is absolutely Awesome. You are really an All-In-One Internet guider. I am starting out with my new blog, we are at setup stage, we are preparing free courses for email optins.
Allow readers to purchase your own products or donate to your cause through your blog. If you have an online store for selling arts and crafts, or you create T-shirt designs available through a clothing website, provide links to those sites. Including a PayPal button for quick, safe purchases or donations is a common way to monetize creative blogs, or blogs that provide free advice or assistance to those who can’t afford it.
Great post. Very informative for people looking to set up a blog and begin to make money. The key is that it doesn’t happen overnight and that your blog should be just a tool in your business plan. Thanks Again for valuable content and not the same old garbage some people spew.
But as much as I loved writing the book, I’m excited to put my time and energy back into blogging. Thank you to all of the readers who’ve stuck with me. While it was a tough decision for me to spend less time blogging and more time writing the book, for me it was about the long game. Writing a book is a ton of up-front investment that will hopefully pay off in the future by reaching new audiences. It was also a great way to lay out my entire strategy for making as much money as possible and fast-tracking financial independence. For updates on the book and for free stuff sign up here.
Follow related blogs and ask other bloggers about crosslinking. Contact other bloggers on social media and blogging sites, and help advertise each other’s articles when the subject overlaps with both your audiences. Many bloggers are happy to post a link on twitter even if they aren’t interested in advertising your blog on their own.
Now, starting a blog is easy but in order to be able to successfully monetize the blog, you need to establish the blog. In this guide, I have also covered the topics that help you establish your blog so you can monetize it.
Alrighty. Just started a new blog this week and this post is SO valuable. My first goal is growing my list to 1,000, but you’ve got me thinking about viable products and a webinar. Thanks for sharing your expertise and experience!
Thank you for the openness of your blogging. It is hard to find people willing to be as transparent as you are. I have only just started reading through your website over the last couple days and I am inspired by your story.
I think a better question than “How much do bloggers make?” is “How much can a blogger make?” No amount is guaranteed, and it’s not easy, but there is virtually no limit. That’s one of the reasons I love blogging.
Twitter – has a variety of ad options like Facebook and other social networks. The best one for your blog marketing efforts is the Promoted Tweets option. You can expect about $0.50 to $0.75 estimated cost per engagement, which is Twitter’s way of telling you what your cost per click is.
Congrats Grant! Incredible year, it’s been a ton of fun following along your journey. Really enjoyed the video of your interview as well. Keep up the great work and I’m sure you’ll crush your 2018 goals too!
Wow! I love that even though you didn’t make a lot of money, you still wrote about what you did make. It gives us newbie bloggers hope, especially after seeing the updates you’ve added about your more recent incomes. Thanks for the bit of reassurance.
In the case of my blog, about 99% of my early readers would come, read a single article, and then leave forever. So instead of missing out on a potential regular, I started gathering email addresses using a service called Awebber, but these days I prefer GetResponse.
Indirect Income – later on in my blogging journey opportunity has come for ‘indirect’ income streams. As my blogs and profile grew as a result of my blogging I was able to sell my services as a speaker and consultant and was offered the opportunity to author a book with the publisher Wiley. Later I was able to start an event for bloggers which also made money. None of this income came directly from the blog – but rather it came ‘because’ of my blog.
I was under the impression that I should probably build up a little content before I started putting myself out there via social media and seeking affiliate income, ads, etc, but the more I read, it seems like many successful bloggers try those things out of the gate because (as you said) it all takes a while to build up. What do you think?

Wow, I’m so inspired by all of your incomes. I’ve recently quit my profession in Human Resources to pursue my passion for personal finance/career coaching blog. I hope I can be on that list one day! 🙂
Wow. I love this list. As a new blogger, I often feel overwhelmed and sometimes uninspired because it feels like an uphill battle trying to figure out this business. This list has really helped me compile a great deal of resources for what I hope will be a successful blog in the future. Thank you for this!
The conclusion? Build a site around a niche that you have a burn desire for (ex. Harry Potter’s Passive income Plan) a niche that comes to you as an idea, invent something no one else has and stop duplicating the same “gurus” methods over and over again.

That’s just amazing. I never thought there can be a number of options to earn from blogs. I always thought serving ads is the only way. Thanks a lot for changing my mind set. Keep sharing informative articles.
I’ve been thinking about starting a blog for a while. haven’t had a clue where to start. Such a great resource you have here – feeling much more confident I can do this!’ Thank you for your time and effort you’ve put into this!
There is no point in starting a blog that you want to make money from without a plan. There are thousands, even hundreds of niches out there. Some are broad and huge; some are small and virtually unknown. Some niches are easier to make money in than others.
There are some complicated rules for bloggers who publish sponsored posts and depending on your country they can differ. The main point is to make sure that you clearly declare when a blog post is an advertisement.
Making money through blogging requires a carefully thought out topic. If you have an existing blog with a small audience, be honest when considering whether the topic has broad appeal that isn’t already covered by other established bloggers. If it does, great! Otherwise, there’s nothing wrong with starting a second blog that will be more successful in attracting an audience, marketing itself, and making money through a variety of methods described below.
I’m about to build another theme site/shop and was going to use WP, but based on past experiences, I am going to use Joomla because I know the capabilities and flexibility will make managing a site like this (which will have a blog in it), go much smoother, and then there’s security.
Also, I’m skipping a lot of other important topics like price testing, competition, economics, and lots of other variables that affect how to make money blogging, but in my opinion, none of those things are even worth considering until you know the answer to this one simple question:
It is also possible to sell physical products on your blog and to make money that way. Instead of thinking of it as making money from your blog, however, think of your blog as a content marketing tool that will drive visitors to your business website.

#15 – Sarah Titus – $10,015 in December of 2014 – Sarah has more than doubled this by now, but in December of 2014 she managed to break $10K through affiliates and ad networks, about half and half earnings from each. There were also some earnings from sponsored posts.

promoting your expertise to deliver training or consultancy services to businesses can be a highly profitable way to create an online income. In the past I have helped lots of businesses get started blogging by working with them to create editorial calendars and giving their marketing teams tips to promote their posts. Whether you’re an Excel guru, a marketing whiz or a customer services master you can build up your profile on your blog.

Making money blogging can take a lot of persistence, but it can pay off in the long-run if youre starting out from scratch. Just remember that you dont have to use all of these money-making avenues at once. Consider what other people in your industry are doing, and start from there.
Great information all in one place. I am new to blogging and having a blast. Deciding on a niche was a bitch. I am interested in so many things that I had to follow all of them until I found my groove. It’s a big problem not settling in one niche. At the moment I am in two niches and celebrating the focus. Xx
This is a really interesting post Jon. What you’ve listed here are the “tools of the trade” so to speak. Every type of business has a list of things specific to that business that must happen in order for their to be income produced. If that list isn’t followed, then you have a hobby, not a business.
Because of the similarity in names, beginners often start with WordPress.com thinking they are getting the powerful WordPress.org software. After seeing the limitations, users often end up switching from WordPress.com to WordPress.org to have more features and control over their website.
BTW, I am going to try a new revenue stream. Since I’m an expert in the information technology field (it’s the truth), currently I am writing a book to be published online. I am focusing 100% on the ages of 18 – 30 for this book as I know how to reach theme with what my book is about. About 2 months or little less It will be available in online book companies as my first book and if all goes well, I can write more books as I have so many topics to cover. Still I will run my niched wordpress blog that is not in the Computer field.
Yes, this isn’t that moonshot way of earning that so many are dreaming of, where you monetize your own blog and make six figures on autopilot. This is an everyday, working-class sort of way to earn from blogging. Simply helping publications and companies communicate powerfully with their readers and customers.
In order to make money blogging you’re going to need to have a blog. While this is pretty obvious it is also a stumbling block for many PreBloggers who come to the idea of blogging with little or no technical background.

Hey! I really want to thank you for providing these tips for someone who is just starting out. Sometime its difficult to know where to start. With your post, it has given me a clear focus and motivation. Thanks so much Jamie
One area I never really got into with my survivalist blog and wanted to was Everyday Carry. Most people will have never heard of this concept but it really is an interesting sub-niche with in this niche. Everyday Carry is basically any items you can’t leave the house with.
The top partner has the first shot to fill an ad – if they don’t – they “pass back” that ad request to Adsense (since Adsense is a 100% fill solution but tends to have lower CPMs than other ad networks).

Trust continues to be a major issue on the World Wide Web between bloggers and readers. Readers want to see bloggers posting lots and lots of meaningful content to their sites on a daily basis and giving them something to think about. It’s relatively easy for a person to post once a week and expect readers to be converted into repeat buyers when that’s certainly not the case toward being a successful and profitable blogger. Creating quality content and putting people first puts a full-time or part-time blogger in the front seat to earning honest and passive incomes from affiliate marketing.
This is another favorite income stream of mine. My first digital product was my ebook Tell Your Time: How to Manage Your Schedule So You Can Live Free which still sells every month. Another digital product of mine is the Knowtbook, a form of premium content.
Here at Smart Blogger, our products cost $9,997, $1,997, and $997, $497, $197, and $47.  We started on the expensive side first, and we gradually worked our way down. It’s been much, much more profitable this way.
When an up-and-coming band auditions to be an opening act, do you think the more famous band cares where they have played? Not really. All they care about is the strength of the audition. If the up-and-coming band is good, they get the gig. If they suck, it doesn’t matter where they played or how good everyone else says they are, they get a polite no.
Include keywords in important places. Include them in your blog post title, the large “headers” introducing a new section, the first few sentences of your post, and in links. Change your settings so each blog post’s URL includes the title of the post, not the date it was posted. Try to make these as descriptive as possible to raise your ranking in search results and attract the right audience.
Membership sites can be a big time investment since you must continually create premium content for your paying members. But they can be very lucrative because they are recurring revenue (subscriptions).
I love to look at blogger income reports and this is, by far, the most comprehensive list that I’ve found. 🙂 Blogging takes a good bit of trial and error over time and I think looking at what others have gone through proves that. Stick with it, change what isn’t working, and build something of value that people want. It’s almost a testament to people’s willpower as much as anything else sometimes. Lol
Hey Kenzie!! Aww, you’re so nice! If you’re ever in the Nashville area, let me know 🙂 Blogging has totally changed my life, but it took some work to get where I am now (I’m on maybe my 12th income report?) But I am totally open and share the good and the bad when it comes to blogging, so hopefully others find it useful. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment 🙂
Consider affiliate programs. By finding an affiliate program suitable for your blog, you agree to provide links to a company’s products, and in return are paid for each reader who makes a purchase after following your link. You can find specific companies by searching an affiliate directory such as ClickBank, or by searching individual company websites for affiliate programs. Consider these factors before you choose an affiliate program:

To be honest, I’m not a big podcast listener myself so this one really blew me away. I think a lot of the popularity ended up being because of the 5-minute format and the banter between Matt and me. Sometimes we agree and sometimes we don’t. We also try to balance the mechanics and the philosophy of money. I also chock up some of the success to the fact that we just kept at it. Recording 232 episodes took a ton of time but we’re both really committed. We also have a ton of fun recording, especially now that we both work online full-time. So for all of you who downloaded, listened, or shared any episodes we really appreciate it. As long as you keep listening, we will keep recording. We are planning to record another 200+ episodes in 2018, so hit us up for any topics you want us to cover.
I can’t imagine that it’s worth the payoff to actually pay $25-100 per guest post. I mean, sure, if Conde Nast would let us write for them for a hundred bucks that would be one thing, but I don’t think it’s worth it to pay to guest post on a middling travel blog.

Hundreds of established Linkedin Groups cater to industries and trade specialties in which we specialize. By participating and sharing content in these groups, we build relationships with community members, gain connections and promote our brand.
The ads API—the software that lets these third-party marketing developers integrate with Pinterest—has been in the works since the beginning of the year and was first revealed publicly in April, but no partners were named until today. The API is seen as a crucial component for Pinterest to grow its business and gain consideration among more marketers as they plan campaigns.
What is the one tip you received from this post that you think will impact your business the most?  Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.  Also, there are many more business marketing tips out there, and I’d love your input below as to what YOUR most powerful LinkedIn tip is.
If you want someone’s business, you have to give them value FIRST. Invest the time to learn something about your target (other than their title and industry) so that you can offer them something of value: a link to a couple articles that can help them solve a problem; a free, short white paper about a challenge in their industry and how your company can help or a connection to someone in your network who can help them. Basically, if you want my attention, explain – briefly – how you can make my life easier. Be helpful, not pushy.
I printed up hundreds of fliers and posted them on windshields everywhere. That produced ZERO PHONE CALLS. I printed yard signs and posted them onto utility poles. The police called me telling me to remove them. What a waste. Next, I tried…
Since 2003, MLMLeads.com has specialized in mlm leads, lead generation, network marketing leads, business opportunity leads, mobile apps and automated marketing systems for those that want to sponsor more distributors into their home business opportunity or network marketing business in less time without bugging friends and family.

But their other accounts are great too. Specifically, they’ve created Twitter handles for each of their target personas: @FYEatMIT for first-year students, @MISTIatMIT for matching MIT undergraduates with internship, teaching, and research opportunities, @MITGradStudents for (you guessed it) graduate students, and more.
Why do we need network marketing leads? Well, after we’ve pitched our friends and family we still need to keep them close. The idea of having to “excommunicate” all your “black sheep” friends and family who don’t want to be a-part of your level one twenty people is the exact point where MLM crosses the line into being a religious money cult.
Joe Pulizzi is content marketing, and he’s the man to follow if you want the latest about blogging, inbound, or any other related field. As the counder of the Content Marketing Institute, he knows what he’s tweeting about when it comes to content marketing.
Assuming the blue individual recruits five, and those five recruit their own five, and so on, the maximum theoretical cycles of recruits possible in the “downline” of the blue individual is 14 cycles (514 = 6.1 billion people), after which point the total human population is exceeded.
Called Marketing Developer Partners, this is Pinterest’s first official program to give API access to companies offering social media management platforms to brands and businesses. Facebook and Twitter both have similar programs to help coordinate third-party integration, which makes this a natural move for Pinterest as it continues make a case to be a serious alternative for marketers’ dollars.
You can embed LinkedIn SlideShare presentations directly into your Company Page updates. These presentations can be simply slides, but can also include video, and can be used for unconventional formats like tall infographics. Use these tips to make a SlideShare that gets noticed:
After years of producing his own industry-altering content, Scott Galloway is now a fountain of information, consistently sharing posts from his NYT bestseller and marketing insights from L2. Unabridged and free of the many frills that try to suck in viewers, Scott Galloway cuts the fat that many Twitter accounts hold onto by simply blasting informative snippets in the business & marketing world.
The sender had no idea that I would be interested beyond the point of them knowing they have a great product ready to fly off the shelves. At some point I had signed up to receive information about innovative network marketing ideas. And that day I got a small gem.
9. Bit.ly. More than just a URL shortener, Bit.ly lets users send links to multiple accounts and customize shortened domains to highlight their brands. You can also plug your Bit.ly API into many of the other best Twitter applications to track and graph stats on your links.
The most important way social media can help you grow your business is through building relationships with influencers.  Follow them, share their content, and interact. They may have tens of thousands of followers they will share your business with which can get you results NOW instead of later after you’ve grown your own audience.
NetWorld Solutions created GoGranny as a way to spoof competitor GoDaddy’s Superbowl ads. The mockumentary vignettes featured Cloris Leachman and were hosted on YouTube. The sassy “GoGranny” took over Twitter for three days during Super Bowl weekend and tweeted carefully targeted messages that caught the attention of influencers like Guy Kawasaki and Scott Monty. Top mommy bloggers at BlogHer also participated. In just five days, the campaign had inspired 3,000 tweets and 20 million impressions on Twitter. #GoGranny also became a trending topic. Besides the attention the campaign garnered, the company saw sales of its .CO domain increase by more than 500% during Super Bowl weekend.
This site has social media covered, thanks to contributions from a substantial amount of respected social media minds. Social Media Today’s Twitter feed is constantly buzzing with unique B2B and B2C tips and the latest in-depth stats related to Facebook, Twitter, and pretty much every other major social site.
Everyone talks about the power of Facebook ads (I’m not discounting how dynamic they can be; in fact, I’ve had great success using them myself), but the LinkedIn ad platform is even more powerful considering the demographic is made up of decision makers.
What is your objective? Who do you want to target? What do you want to do for your business? The answers to these questions will guide your tactics. For example, if you’re focused on lead generation, make sure you include CTAs (calls-to-action) in Sponsored Updates that will turn visitors to prospects. If the goal is to be seen as a thought leader, use LinkedIn’s publishing platform to publish long, deeper content that pushes the conversation forward on your area of expertise. If you want to increase brand awareness, publish top of the funnel content to reach a larger audience. It may not be any one thing, it maybe a mixture of tactics, but always start with a solid strategy and then set goals to measure your progress.
Joe Pulizzi is often named the Godfather of Content Marketing for all the right reasons. He founded Content Marketing Institute and coined the term Content Marketing after realizing that the traditional advertising model was just not cutting it anymore. CMI was sold to UBM in 2016 in a hefty buyout and he continues to push the #ContentMarketingMovement forward.
Success Metrics: During the three-month campaign, the #AWAAZDO hashtag received 1,525 mentions and the @UNICEFIndia Twitter account gained 2,198 followers. The campaign itself received 60,540 impressions on Twitter during the time period, as calculated using Tweetreach. By the end of the campaign, the Awaaz Do website garnered 203,248 signups of people interested in “joining the movement” to help get India’s children back to school.

After switching to fair trade produce, Ben and Jerry’s launched a clever Twitter campaign to help drive awareness. most bloggers make $0..01 per page view or $0.02 per visitor. Very succssful (efficient) bloggers make 10 times more than that (I’ve made a research about it – researchasahobby.com/how-much-money-can-earn-blogging-per-visitor/)..
Thank you Abby for being so transparent. As an ethical blogger I have decided to start revealing this information in a report – it’s a part of my commitment to transparency more so than inspiring people. For me, if I expect transparency from brands, I must be transparent with the way I run my blog. Would love to know your thoughts! xx
There are thousands of articles and podcast episodes on ProBlogger about how to create content. See our latest stuff in the content category on our blog and on the podcast. Also check out some of these popular articles on different aspects of creating content.
Just started an idea and discovered your info. Very helpful. I am over 50 and a little late in the tech game because of past jobs that required little or no time in front of a computer. I am a very good writer with many a published article to my name over the years BUT now journal writing by hand does little or no good in the world of tech. When I get this blogging thing going, it is gonna explode.
The truth is you are better to put out 5 – 10 smaller products around one big product that way if your goal is to make $5,000 a month, it will be easier to make $500 to $1,000 per product then it would be to make the full $5,000 from one product.
Confusingly, WordPress.org allows you to use WordPress software on your own, self-hosted blog. This is a good choice if you are familiar with WordPress.com, a free blog hosting service described above, but want the advantages of your own site.
Thanks so much for the input! I think the number of posts will vary for each person. My blog first started to gain some traction around the end of my second month or beginning of the third, so I had written about 20 posts by then, and then it grew steadily from there. Some other bloggers might see traction sooner, others much later. It just really depends on the quality of the content and amount of energy people put into promoting it. I’m sorry I can’t give a more specific answer! I hope this helps! Have a great day!
Understand whether your affiliate program rewards the person who posts the first link, or the last. If you are paid only for being the last link clicked before a purchase, then you should not link to intermediate pages such as another blogger’s review.[16]
Then, pitch high-traffic sites and try to get on as a regular, paid blogger. From there, if you’re writing well, other clients who need help from a professional blogger will begin to find you. If you can understand what they need to say and the audience they are trying to reach, you can grow your stable of blogging clients.
I think it’s great that you started doing income reports. We all have to start somewhere. I haven’t even started monetizing yet but I’m getting there. I’m looking forward to seeing your blog income grow and thanks for sharing!
Jon, you just rock! I agree that you should be called “his Royal Awesomeness” :). This is the greatest post I ever read about blogging and monetizing a blog. I know some bloggers who are able to make a living 20-30k per year with their blogs but it took them years to build a following and thousands of posts too…
Write down every topic that you are knowledgeable or passionate about. You’ll have a much easier time making money from a blog you are interested in, rather than trying to write content you don’t like because you think it will make money.[1] Some examples are hobbies that you enjoy, your career, or some specific and miscellaneous knowledge that you have.
It is also possible to sell physical products on your blog and to make money that way. Instead of thinking of it as making money from your blog, however, think of your blog as a content marketing tool that will drive visitors to your business website.
I LOVE this post and have shared it as far and wide as I can. I must admit, having recently started writing for the HuffPost, I’ve felt guilty for hardly posting anything on my own blog (just don’t have the time to do both) so your post has made me feel much better for prioritising the guest posting.
Also, I think allowing comments on your blog makes you approachable and builds a community. Plus, if you solely build your community on social media networks, what happens when they disappear? You never know, it could happen.
For 2018, I’ve set a revenue goal of $500,000 which might be achievable if the new courses being developed are successful and website traffic continues to grow. I’m also planning to donate a lot of money in 2018 to support Ugandan school fees (my wife works there) and invest in financial literacy initiatives in the United States.
This was a win-win! First, I was able to share my experience and give an honest review of something I was using. Second, a reader trusted my opinion and used my link to make a purchase. The reader was able to get the item for the standard price and I was able to earn a commission. How exciting!
Below are the 10 goals I set for the blog in 2017, what I was able to accomplish in 2017, and my goals for 2018. These also include a detailed breakout of the $401,681 in blog income I made from the Millennial Money website.
I love reading comprehensive posts, especially those that distill what the blogger has learned themselves over the years. Helps know what works and what does not, so I don’t waste time and hopes on something that’s less likely to help meet my blogging goals. Thank you for this.
It can guide future product creation. If one affiliate product sells 10X better than all the others you promote, you might want to think about developing your own version of the product, because you have proof your audience wants it.
The point is, most people are afraid to charge more than $200 for a class, believing that’s all people can afford, but it’s just not true. Every market has customers who are and willing to pay for a premium experience. Give them one.
Thank you so much, Jamie, for this valuable information! My blog is currently in it’s infancy stage and with all the research I’ve done to date, your site has given me the most informative information to help me succeed. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
This is an awesome post. I too found PinchofYum.com some time ago. I’ve built a niche site and I’m in the stage of promoting it so I really needed the information posted here. I’ve researched making money for years but never paired that research with any ACTION. It was not until recently that I started putting things in motion so seeing some of the steps I’m taking being talked about in this topic is quite reassuring. My blog is based around making money online but making it make sense for beginners. https://chuckcandoyoucantoo.com
Kristen, great job on your post! I have to admit when I scrolled down and read the numbers I laughed to myself. I am in the same boat now..I have few dollars and cents from various places but nothing to actually show on my bank statement. Thank you so much for posting this! It’s uplifting to know that my heard work will pay off like your hard work has done for you. Keep posting as I will keep reading!
One example is this: since our blog is a sub-domain for my wife and I’s boutique beach resort, nobody seems to want to touch me as a guest blogger. I get the same response every time “you’re commercial and so you’ve got to pay for a sponsored post”…and while yes, we are commercial and not a private blog per se, we’re a tiny family run business and 95% of private blogs are striving to be commercial, whether they’re associated with a company name or not.

I’m trying to get into blogging now and convince my husband that someday it might let me work anywhere in the world, we love to travel. I bought a domain, installed a free theme, have five posts ready, and now I just need to launch my blog.
Use a contextual ad service. Once your blog contains high quality content and has begun to attract an audience, you can make money using Google Adsense, WordAds, or any other contextual ad service. These automatically generate ads in the amount, size, and placement you specify, matching the ads chosen to the topics you write about. The more readers who click on the ads shown on your site, the more money the advertisers will pay you.
One thing I notice is that the people making the serious money on this list earn the bulk of it through affiliates, not necessarily ad networks. So that is something to think about. While ad networks can be lucrative, there are downsides to them. They slow down your blog, you don’t get to pick the ads that display, and they are kind of annoying/not pleasant to look at.
Thank you for sharing such a great post! I am new to blogging and I keep on searching for website like this. One of the hardship I encountered is content for my blog I am not very good at writing so I am planning to hire someone who could provide a very good content. Do you have any recommendation where to hire for someone who could write an article for me?

During the baby boom era, Kellogg’s began selling sugary cereal to children. With this change in business model came sociable animal mascots, lively animated commercials and the back of the cereal box as a form of targeted content marketing. Infographics were born in this era. This represented a new approach to make a brand memorable with the audience.[14]
Though emphasis is always made on the potential of success and the positive life change that “might” or “could” (not “will” or “can”) result, it is only in otherwise difficult to find disclosure statements (or at the very least, difficult to read and interpret disclosure statements), that MLM participants are given fine print disclaimers that they as participants should not rely on the earning results of other participants in the highest levels of the MLM participant pyramid as an indication of what they should expect to earn. MLMs very rarely emphasize the extreme likelihood of failure, or the extreme likelihood of financial loss, from participation in MLM. MLMs are also seldom forthcoming about the fact that any significant success of the few individuals at the top of the MLM participant pyramid is in fact dependant on the continued financial loss and failure of all other participants below them in the MLM pyramid.
I spend a lot of time using LinkedIn Advanced Search to find prospects or like-minded people in my area to connect with. Even in just the short time that I have been doing this I have been invited to speak at two events by these new connections. And that was after just connecting with 10 people. So, I am continuing this approach of selectively, rather than in bulk, approaching people that fit my business.  If you are in the B2B arena, I highly recommend LinkedIn to expand your network!
Pinterest started testing Promoted Video last August with brands including General Mills, Kate Spade New York and Universal Pictures. Since then, it has moved to autoplay, a format brought into the mainstream by Facebook, and began placing video ads within search results and feeds.

Beside profile optimization, my biggest LinkedIn marketing strategy is to blog on the Pulse platform. The posts I publish there may not reach thousands of readers. However, they always catch the attention of the right prospects. The great job or partnership offers that land in my inbox afterwards are proof of that.
In addition to tweeting out fun content, they’re constantly using Twitter to ask their followers to answer questions, respond to folks who tweet at them, and jump in on trending hashtags — like the #DontWorryBoutAThingCuz hashtag below.
I know that in order for social media to work it takes more than having a lot of followers or connections and posting stuff to my status. It requires some hopefully many of these people who have gotten to know me deciding to share it with their contacts.

While there are always simple steps you can take to improve your LinkedIn experiences, the advice above shows us that the richest, most effective experiences on LinkedIn come with an investment in the platform and its members.
Lesson: Whether it’s as simple as employing a hashtag or as strategic as creating a social landing page, aggregating and organizing conversation around your brand, especially during events, is key to making a splash on Twitter.
I’m a firm believer in giving and helping others succeed as much as you possibly can.  The more you give, the more you will receive.  Recommending others without them asking you to is a great way to help increase the social proof on their profile, which could be the difference between an OK year, and a great year for them.
Twitter allows you to reach a larger audience and increase brand awareness. But there are challenges to overcome such as exposing your brand to negative comments, dealing with customer complaints, and remaining visible.

I have found the best way to get attention on LinkedIn is to join groups in your industry where your target audience or customers are actually engaging in discussion and participate in those discussions with them. When you become an active member of the group and provide valuable answers to other member’s questions. This can lead to to those members wanting to connect with you directly and the achievement of your ultimate goal on LinkedIn, whether it is to be hired or to get more people interested in your products or services.
Think of your LinkedIn Company Page as your business’s LinkedIn profile. Your Company Page should offer ample opportunities for prospective customers to learn more about your company, the people who work there, and engage with relevant content. You will find more tips below for managing an effective LinkedIn Company Page. If you haven’t already, get started with marketing on LinkedIn by creating a Company Page for your business.
Success on Linked In comes from being a good online neighbor. First of all, this means not approaching people you don’t have anything in common with and being sure to send a real message in the invitation. No one would meet someone at a networking event and go Hi I’m Max Ivey I want to be in your network. They would tell you a little about theirselves and then ask you to do the same.

“We’re going to continue to add more third-party measurement providers—the goal is we want this to be verified by the broader ecosystem [and built] the way that video buyers want to buy,” Bidgoli said.
Nearly half a million people follow Buffer, so if the proof is in the numbers, look no further. Not only has this team built one of the most-loved social media scheduling tools, they also share cutting-edge marketing and productivity insights on Twitter.
A concise Tweet makes an impact. Keep each Tweet focused on one specific message rather than trying to communicate multiple things. You can include a link to a blog post or website if you have a longer message to convey.
Most salespeople and marketers steeped in the tradition of product advertising naturally feel drawn to prattle on and on about their products and services on LinkedIn. But I have news for you. Nobody cares about your products and services (except you). Yes, you read that right.

Another option to make money is to sell memberships to exclusive corners of your website. For instance, a career blog might charge $10 per month for users to gain access to their job board. A startup business blog might sell memberships to their forums where people can get personalized advice about their business.
Thank you for all this information! Is a cooking blog a good subject for a profitable blog or is it better to go write about general subject like relationship for example. In that case what would be the way to have affiliation? Also is there a way to target a specific country? Is English the language to use preferably or French is good aswell?
I am combining goals 6 and 7 because I didn’t accomplish either of them. One of the top Google ranking factors is backlinks, so in 2017, I focused on trying to get as many as I could. I was pretty successful getting backlinks from the media, but didn’t take the time to connect with as many brands as I wanted. But looking back, 100 new backlinks per month was a pretty crazy goal. Also when it comes to sharing, I don’t use a social plugin that tracks the shares, but I estimate I get about 50 to 60 per post. Some posts, however, like the $50 a day early retirement strategy I know have been shared over 500 times. In reality for 2018, I’m not planning any goals for backlinks or shares and don’t have any plans to develop an active backlink building strategy. I’m going to spend my time creating quality content instead.
#12 – Believe in a Budget – $5041 in March of 2016 – Look how far Kristin has come in such a short time! Almost exactly a year prior, she made $60 in a month on her blog (listed above). Much of this income is now coming from freelancing that she is doing (Pinterest management, image services, and an eCourse), which she considers to be tied to her blog.
Sponsored Content: Most blogs start this way. A company basically contacts you via email (or you reach out to them) and ask you to write a review about their product or brand. They pay for this review and the link to their site (between $200 – $750 USD / article).
People who start to blog always thing of making money which tends them toward failure. In my opinion bloggers should choose the topic which interests them. They don’t think about making money. It’s about knowledge, try to learn more and don’t think about money stuff. There are many top blog topics to make money online but you can get success only with the topic you like to write on. Try to choose your topic for the blog. Making money is very easy, don’t think about it much.
I’ve been through quite a lot with my days a blogger. I was making money, but it just wasn’t enough. You literally make pennies and dollars. That is not enough to support yourself. It wasn’t until I met Noah King. A mentor of mine who taught me how to make REAL MONEY online writing about what I love. I am now making $6000/month after a year of hard work and can do it all from the convenience of my home. Never give up or sell yourself short! Noah has his own website where he talks about how to achieve the same success he has. You can check him out here if you’re interested – http://www.deservingwriter.com/
The topic ” Make money from home ” is very much interesting and people get very much excited when they get to know about it. But people should understand, this isn’t that much easy as they are thinking.
Great Post Jon! I laughed out loud at Lesson#17. I launched a product from my blog that resulted in 0 sales. I will definitely use the tips that you mentioned here going forward in my blogging and business efforts.

Advertising is easy to start making it a popular income stream for many bloggers. However, it’s not nearly as lucrative as it once was and it requires a lot of traffic to be truly profitable. Therefore, it’s not a top recommendation of mine.
Your blog is great and every single post is packed with truly useful and up to date information and tips, but one thing I am finding, not just with BBT, but most “how to be a successful blogger” sites is that the focus is almost entirely geared towards people who want to be a “blogger” and not on how a company can use a blog to drive sales.
Great content. Just what I have been looking for. I realized that I have been spending lots of hours creating content for my blog but doing nothing when it comes to outreaching and promiting my content.
Create something within your budget. Unless you’re running a company blog, you’re unlikely to be able to get a crowd of extras or expensive equipment. Brainstorm silly ideas that can be performed by you and your friends.
Spot-on post though, I’m just genuinely curious…in your experience, have you found it more difficult for people to break into guest blogging since it’s so pervasive among the IM crowd? Is it more-so a matter of who you know versus what you know?
You can begin accepting donations in a few different ways. You could add a Paypal donate button or a Stripe donate button to your website. Or for a more professional look and advanced features like email marketing integration, you could use WPForms to create a donation form on your WordPress site.
If you are new, obviously don’t try to fit all of these income streams in at one time. You should build on it and work on one at a time. Slowly build your income. Think of it in terms of a job. When you start out at a job you don’t usually start making the big bucks right away. After time and experience come into play, then you start making more and more money with raises and promotions. Now you can make a ton more money online than a typical job but it is the same concept!
Absolutely not. Yes, there are way more blogs online today than there were 5 years ago when we started, but there were also fewer people reading travel blogs and fewer companies willing to work with us.
Twitter – has a variety of ad options like Facebook and other social networks. The best one for your blog marketing efforts is the Promoted Tweets option. You can expect about $0.50 to $0.75 estimated cost per engagement, which is Twitter’s way of telling you what your cost per click is.
A platform is a software or service you are using to run your blog. In your case, you are already using self-hosted WordPress.org blog. If you want to get more traffic to your blog, then a good place to start would be our WordPress SEO Guide for beginners.
John..Love your writing and your story about you and your mom’s insatiable perseverance. I have been reading your site a lot lately (you probably already know that) and love the wisdom you are passing on. I am constantly seeking new ideas and insights and glad I found the site. Keep up the good work and your entertaining writing style!
Any who I just wanted to say your income report is expiring and I only hope by 6 months to have made something. As it stands now with my 200 pageviews I have earned about a $1.00, but I am proud of that dollar.
I feel skeptical writing blogs again as i never had a good experience earlier. Had some blogs and no traffic. Going by your narrative and very useful blog, i hope that i will succeed in my blogging deeds:)
I have been meaning to tell you thanks for including me! I need to get back to publishing these reports, I have been on a blogging sabbatical and have not published anything for a while now so need to get back to it!
As with freelancing, there is no startup investment. You can start offering consulting services on your existing blog. All you need is to create a page with a form so users can request more information.
The top partner has the first shot to fill an ad – if they don’t – they “pass back” that ad request to Adsense (since Adsense is a 100% fill solution but tends to have lower CPMs than other ad networks).
I have a blog that uses a wordpress theme, and blue host hosts my domain name. However, I don’t really understand what a platform is and I don’t know what my platform is. I am planning to start a new food blog with a different focus and use wordpress.org (whatever that actually means.) Does wordpress.org help you with setting up and explaining whether or not they are your platform? I am a granny (79 to be exact.) I have a three year old cooking blog that never gets visitors except for family and friends. I would like to do better with my blog, but I don’t even understand the idea of platform. Can you give me some advice as to how to proceed?
My response: you’re 98% right. Unless you’re selling exclusively to multimillionaires, the vast majority of your customer base won’t be able to afford premium products, but what’s interesting is it doesn’t matter. Often, you can make more money selling to the 2% than you can to the entire 98% combined.

Now, starting a blog is easy but in order to be able to successfully monetize the blog, you need to establish the blog. In this guide, I have also covered the topics that help you establish your blog so you can monetize it.
A blog is not a blog without content so once you’ve set your blog up you need to focus your attention upon creating useful content. What you choose to create will depend a little on the topic that you choose to write about (on that note, most successful bloggers have some focus to their blogging whether that be a niche or a demographic that they write for).
Selling your professional services. I used to have great success as a web designer, and graphic but the industry has changed and people are doing their own small business sites. Yes, they all look the same but the clients don’t know the difference. Logos? People are going to fivrr.
Don’t expect it to come quickly. I have worked pretty tirelessly on my blog and genuinely love blogging, but realistically, only make 20-25% of my income from blogging (13 months later). It takes time and an awful lot of work. Don’t feel bad if it takes a year or two to start seeing any momentum.
Selling your own product or service on something you REALLY know is the best way to make money fast with your blog.  All you need is a decent following or readers that trust you to start making a few sales.
Wow this is such a good idea for a post. I have been looking at many of these sites individually but now that this is bookmarked I will be checking it every month. My sites are making me a few hundred a month depending on the time I have to devote but it’s motivating to see others having success.
